About the position:

 

We are presently seeking to hire a Substation Worker C for an opening in Watertown, NY. In addition to a starting wage of $53.86 per hour, we offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, tuition assistance and more. Under general supervision, work with, and train a group to install, construct, inspect, test, operate, and maintain all equipment and facilities in electric substations, switching substations, generating substations, and other electric delivery equipment and facilities found on the transmission, distribution, or underground systems. This includes but is not limited to the following:

 

  • All corrective, preventative, predictive, and trouble maintenance
  • Perform directed switching operations
  • Perform any equipment operations
  • Perform all testing functions on substation apparatus
  • Operate and analyze results for all test equipment as required
  • Assist in the development and training of personnel
  • Work alone or in a crew depending on the task and complexity.

 

 Job Qualifications:

 

  • Electrical or mechanical Journeyman certification preferred, will need to provide proof of completion of apprentice program or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience with diverse types of energized and de-energized substation equipment, rubber gloving, climbing and electrical operating procedure skills is preferred.
  • Subject to the Memorandum of Agreement Regarding Residency, live within 35 miles of posting location.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient computer and technology abilities.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of equipment, standards and practices applicable to this type of work, and have a working knowledge of fundamental theory relating thereto.
  • Ability to read and thoroughly understand complicated electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and construction prints.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous work including work at elevated heights and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment such as aerial lifts, boom trucks, fork trucks, and articulating lifts, backhoes, and other equipment associated with construction and maintenance.
  • A NYS CDL Class A (restricted) or higher, or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Must pass physical abilities examination.
  • Must pass validated aptitude test.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.

$53.86/hr
