At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid supplies us with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, we don’t plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. So, join us as a Group Crisis and Training Exercise Manager and find your superpower.

As a Group Crisis Training and Exercise Manager you will lead the design, delivery, and maintenance of a comprehensive training and exercise program for the executive Group Crisis Management Team (GCMT) and Crisis Support Team (CST).

The role helps to prepare stakeholders to respond and recover from crisis events. We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We’d hope to see you in our Warwick office one or 2 days a week, and you’ll also need to be flexible to travel to other offices and also travel to the US occasionally to meet with some of the team.

What you'll do

  • Program Management: Oversee and manage the Group crisis training and exercise program, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives while effectively coordinating resources and timelines.
  • Training Design and Delivery: Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive training programs and exercises that enhance the preparedness of the GCMT, CST, and relevant stakeholders, incorporating best practices and lessons learned from previous incidents.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong communication and collaboration across departments and teams to ensure a unified approach to Group crisis management training and exercises, facilitating stakeholder engagement and feedback.
  • Alignment with Policies and Procedures: Ensure that the training and exercise program is aligned with relevant organisational plans, procedures, and policies, regularly reviewing and updating content to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  • Crisis Response Communication Technologies: Create and conduct training sessions and drills focused on the effective use of group crisis response communication technologies, including satellite phones and emergency alert notification tools, to ensure team proficiency in back-up communication tools.
  • Flexibility and Support: Demonstrate flexibility in supporting peers on initiatives that enhance operational resilience across National Grid, actively contributing to collaborative efforts and adapting to evolving organisational needs.

What you'll need

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage various stakeholders effectively, ensuring their support and collaboration in crisis training and exercise design and deliver.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in change management practices, with project management skills considered an advantage to facilitate the implementation of training programs and exercises.
  • Resilience Knowledge: Knowledge and basic understanding of the profession across areas such as resilience, emergency management / incident management, business continuity or similar, including basic familiarity with international standards and government frameworks.
  • Training and Exercise Capability: In-depth understanding of the principles and processes for exercise design, along with the ability to develop a competency-based training program that includes clearly defined learning objectives, facilitating progressive capability development for crisis management teams.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £58,000 - £70,000 per annum– dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
