National Grid is hiring a ServiceNow Developer on a permanent basis. This position is based in Warwick. You will also have the opportunity to work from our co-working space in London. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of a few days per month in the office. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.
Job Purpose
Join National Grid’s ServiceNow Platform Team as a Senior ServiceNow Developer focused on HR Service Delivery (HRSD). This is a hands-on senior technical role responsible for designing, building, and stabilizing enterprise-grade HRSD solutions that are secure, scalable, and aligned to platform standards. You'll work closely with HR stakeholders, technical teams, and delivery partners to translate business objectives into practical ServiceNow solutions, while enforcing engineering discipline and driving outcomes end-to-end.
You'll engage with business stakeholders, lead working sessions, present solution options, and drive delivery outcomes. You'll influence decisions, align cross-functional teams, and ensure high-quality delivery across internal and vendor resources.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end delivery of HRSD enhancements: design, build, test, deploy, and stabilize solutions in a global enterprise environment.
- Own HRSD technical design and configuration quality, ensuring solutions follow secure SDLC practices and remain supportable over time.
- Provide hands-on HRSD expertise with a strong focus on HR integrations and orchestration—particularly HR system integrations (e.g., SuccessFactors) that enable automation initiatives.
- Define and enforce engineering standards (coding standards, architecture patterns, code/model review checklists) to prevent customization creep and ensure long-term maintainability.
- Provide technical leadership to development teams: mentor developers, perform peer reviews, and establish quality gates to improve consistency and reduce rework.
- Own and maintain integrations (APIs/web services, data mapping, integration standards) to ensure reliability, performance, and strong employee experience across connected systems.
- Support platform reliability: monitor health/usage/compliance, perform security and performance audits, and drive remediation actions through to completion.
- Partner with ServiceNow Support and internal teams on platform upgrades and patching (major version planning, regression strategy, and post-upgrade validation)
- Lead vendor resources when assigned: provide direction, oversee technical execution, enforce quality standards, and ensure deliverables meet National Grid expectations.
- Validate and triage new demands/change requests to ensure alignment with platform guardrails, design standards, and enterprise risk posture.
- Lead the design and implementation of HRSD Lifecycle Events for Joiner/Mover/Leaver (JML) experiences (onboarding, internal transfers/role changes, and offboarding), ensuring a consistent and automated employee journey.
- Configure and optimize lifecycle event structures (event definitions, activity sets/activities, stages, and assignment patterns) to coordinate work across HR, IT, Facilities, Payroll, and Security as needed.
- Partner with HR and Identity stakeholders to ensure lifecycle event journeys are auditable, compliant, and measurable, with clear ownership, timelines, and exception handling.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Strong hands-on ServiceNow development experience (JavaScript and ServiceNow scripting) with solid understanding of secure SDLC practices.
- Strong HRSD domain capability and experience delivering HRSD solutions in an enterprise environment.
- Experience delivering at least one end-to-end implementation in HRSD (and exposure to S2P is an advantage).
- Preferred experience with Employee Center and Virtual Agent (where used in HR experiences).
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting integrations (REST/API), web services, data mapping) and troubleshooting integration performance and reliability.
- Strong analytical skills: able to translate real-world business requirements into clear technical designs and actionable delivery plans.
- Ability to balance business needs, cost, risk, and technology priorities to determine the best solution.java
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across IT and business leadership.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work effectively across multiple geographies.
- Strong relationship building, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven hands‑on experience configuring and supporting HRSD Lifecycle Events for employee transitions, including JML (onboarding, internal movement, offboarding), and driving automation across multiple departments.
- Experience translating HR onboarding/movement/leaver requirements into lifecycle event activity design that improves employee experience and reduces manual handoffs.
- Hands-on experience configuring lifecycle event components including Lifecycle Event definitions, Activity Sets, Activities, stage design, triggers/conditions, and exception handling for JML scenarios
