National Grid is hiring a Commercial Lawer. This role is be based out of our Warwick, UK office. This is a hybrid role, with a mix of office and remote work.

 

About the role

We're looking for a highly experienced Commercial Lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) to join our high-performing Legal team within National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). This is a pivotal role, placing you at the heart of the UK’s ambitious journey to Net Zero by 2050.

 

The energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, and your expertise will be crucial in drafting, negotiating, and executing the strategic commercial agreements that underpin the construction of vital new energy infrastructure.

What you'll do

As a trusted partner to senior business leaders, you will:

• Lead Strategic Contracting: Shape and deliver complex, multi-million-pound commercial arrangements for projects, strategic contracts, R&D collaborations, outsourcing, IT, and IP.

• Provide Expert Counsel: Offer agile, solutions-focused legal advice on novel commercial issues within the evolving energy landscape.

• Drive Project Delivery: Lead the energy/commercial law aspects of critical projects and 'business as usual' matters, influencing outcomes from concept to completion.

• Mitigate Risk: Proactively identify and manage commercial, contractual, procurement, and competition law risks, and manage external counsel to ensure high-quality, value-driven advice.

• Cultivate Excellence: Contribute to the development of the wider General Counsel function by coaching junior talent and driving continuous improvement in legal best practice.

What you'll bring

• UK Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with significant experience in commercial law (likely 6+ years PQE, though all experience levels will be considered if you can demonstrate the requisite expertise).

• Deep commercial awareness and a passion for the energy sector and the Net Zero ambition.

• Proven ability to draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of complex commercial contracts.

• An exceptional and instinctive communicator who can advise and influence at all levels, both internally and externally.

• Knowledge of the Utilities Contract Regulations or other procurement rules preferred.

• Experience advising within the energy sector or another regulated environment preferred.
