National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects in order to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Asset Engineer (Power Electronics) to join the UJV Operations team.
As a Senior Asset Engineer, you will have a critical role ensuring that our interconnector cable assets maintain the highest level of operational performance.
The UJV Operations team are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operational running of a portfolio of interconnectors including NSL, IFA1, IFA2 and Viking Link. As a Senior Cables Asset Engineer, you will have a critical role ensuring that our interconnector cable assets maintain the highest level of operational performance.
The role will be a hybrid role based from our warwick office with an expectation of 3 days a week in the office and the rest from home.
Please note you must have a full UK driving licence as travel to different interconnectors sites may be expected.
What you'll do
- Support the provision of technical and asset management leadership in high voltage cables.
- Assist with developing and implementing strategies for the management of onshore and offshore HVAC & HVDC cable systems.
- Support in the scoping, development and execution of cable system projects, for example planning and managing subsea cable surveys.
- Provide performance data on our interconnectors’ HV cable systems and associated cable system assets and infrastructure.
- Support the asset health review of our interconnectors’ HV cable systems and associated cable system assets and infrastructure.
- Arrange and attend site meetings to work with stakeholders
- Report and analyse asset performance data
- Make asset management decisions based on risk profiles and asset health
- Develop and own Asset Management Plans
- Collaborate with JV Partners on all applicable aspects related to the management of our interconnector cables systems assets
What you'll need
- Ability to work to challenging deadlines
- Ability to problem solve in a team and make decisions
- Good knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.
- Good technical understanding of High Voltage Cables, both AC & DC, Onshore and Offshore
- Able to communicate issues associated within area of expertise in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing
- Suitable technical / professional qualifications achieved through Degree or HND equivalent and on job professional experience.
- Environmental knowledge and understanding in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
- Member of a relevant professional institution or experience to apply for registration and membership or equivalent
- Demonstrable knowledge of strategy, policy and procedures development and implementation
- Good stakeholder management, influence & engagement skills
- Demonstrable experience managing and overseeing contractor and in-house team performance including safety, health, environment & quality when carrying out work
- Project delivery experience
- Experience of working and making critical business and operational decisions with different priorities
- Good understanding of NGV UJV Interconnectors regulatory requirements
- Experience with Data/Management Information visualisation techniques
- Experience working within high voltage environment
- Health and Safety Qualification: IOSH or NEBOSH (or equivalent)
- Educated to a minimum of HNC in an appropriate Engineering (or related) discipline or NVQ in an Electrical Disciple or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship

A competitive salary between £54,090 - £68,000 per annum – dependent on capability.
