We are looking for an exceptional Safety Rules Manager – HV Systems to lead and evolve our High Voltage Safety Rules framework across one of the UK’s most critical infrastructure environments. This is a rare opportunity to take on a visible, high-impact role where your expertise will shape policy, influence operational excellence and help protect the people who keep the network running safely every day.

 

As Safety Rules Manager, you will lead the governance, development and continuous improvement of National Grid’s HV Safety Rules framework, ensuring the highest standards of protection for colleagues and contractors working on or around the network. Acting as the organisation’s technical authority for HV safety, you will shape policy, guide operational standards and ensure safe systems of work remain aligned with regulatory and industry requirements. You will also lead a small specialist team, providing expert direction across the business and driving consistency, compliance and continuous improvement.

 

You will represent National Grid with regulators and at industry forums, while partnering closely with operational teams to embed policy, strengthen standards and build confidence across the organisation. This role calls for deep technical expertise, sound judgement and the ability to influence credibly at every level.

What we're looking for:

You will be a credible and collaborative leader with the confidence to challenge constructively, the judgement to make sound decisions and the ability to bring others with you.

Requirements:

  • HNC in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent health & safety qualification.
  • Registration with a recognised Engineering or Safety professional body.
  • Extensive knowledge of:

                          Health & Safety at Work Act.

                          Electricity at Work Regulations.

                          Management Regulations.

                          Electrical hazard management and safe systems of work.

                          Electricity industry codes and procedures governing joint sites.

  • A strong understanding of corporate and operational safety governance frameworks.
  • A track record of leading a specialist team and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both operational and executive audiences.

Pay and Benefits

  • £65,000 to £80,000 pa + up to 30% Bonus opportunity
  • 28 days annual leave + contribution pension totalling up to 18%
