National Grid is hiring for a Quantity Surveyor   - This position can be based from our Warwick, Bristol, London, Reading or Manchester offices (however we can be open to other locations accross the country.) Hybrid Working model.

Job Purpose

 

We are seeking a skilled and confident Quantity Surveyor to join our team in delivering some of the UK’s most vital electricity transmission projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in a variety of complex projects that have a long-term impact on the infrastructure that powers the UK.

Your expertise will be key in managing NEC contracts, resolving variations, assessing programme impacts, certifying payments, and negotiating outcomes that balance fairness and value. What you'll do

 

  • Take commercial control of high-voltage substation projects, including switchgear replacements, transformer installations, advanced control systems, and civil works, with project values up to £6 million.
  • Manage NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and effective administration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Resolve variations and assess programme impacts, certifying payments and negotiating outcomes that balance fairness and value.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives and progress.
  • Undertake site measurements and value works from first principles, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to procedures.
  • Handle variations and payments to contractors, ensuring that processes are followed and that projects are progressing as planned.
  • Work independently on a portfolio of projects, demonstrating self-sufficiency and proactive problem-solving skills.

About you

 

  • You hold a minimum HNC/L4 qualification in Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
  • You have experience working with main contractors and possess a strong understanding of contract administration.
  • You are skilled in stakeholder management, both internal and external, and can navigate complex project environments.
  • You are self-sufficient and capable of managing your workload effectively, ensuring that projects keep moving forward without the need for constant oversight.
  • Your experienced in dealing with contracts which will provide you with valuable insights into the processes and considerations necessary for managing variations and ensuring compliance.
  • You are willing to travel, with occasional overnight stays, and possess a full UK driving licence.

  • A starting salary of up to £65,000 pa + £3,000 pa Market Supplement + Training and Development.
