National Grid is hiring a Principal Product Manager - This position is based from our Warwick, Bristol or London office's however we offer flexible hybrid working options.

Job Purpose

To lead the definition, implementation, and management of line products through the product lifecycle, ensuring customer-centricity, strategic alignment, and optimal business results. The Principal Product Manager operates at a strategic level, overseeing complex product portfolio, driving innovation, setting the product vision and strategic roadmap; collaborating with senior stakeholders an leading squads from discovery through to product design and production. This role bridges operational product management and strategic leadership, influencing business decisions and fostering organisational capability; to ensure compliance with the defined scope, performance, cots and schedule through agile delivery and ways of working.

What you’ll do

· Portfolio & Project Management: Define and deliver a portfolio of products/services through their full lifecycle. Act as owner/champion for multiple products, ensuring customer/user needs and business objectives are met. Develop product roadmaps, propositions, and positioning for diverse segments.

· Strategic Leadership Engage with senior managers and executives to influence product strategy, business objectives, and portfolio outcomes. Lead business situation analysis, feasibility assessments, and change initiatives

· Benefits Management: Forecast, plan, and monitor the realisation of benefits from products and product lines

· Financial Management: Advise on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting. Monitor expenditure, analyse variances, and ensure effective financial control and decision-making

· Organisational Capability Development: Identify and implement capability improvement activities. Lead professional development and facilitate cross-functional teams

· Business Process Improvement: Plan and lead strategic business process improvement activities, introducing new methodologies and tools

· Line Management: Manage and develop individuals and teams, set performance targets, and support professional growth. Facilitate employee engagement and wellbeing.

· Strategic Product & Roadmap planning, Defining and developing the future strategic roadmap of a portfolio of products and services.

· Product Management, Managing and developing products or services through their full life cycle from inception, growth, maturity, decline to retirement.

· Financial Management, Supporting the effective use and control of financial resources.

· Stakeholder and Relationship Management, Influencing stakeholder attitudes, decisions, and actions for mutual benefit.

· Discovery & Requirements definition, Leading and overseeing discovery to define requirements through the entire delivery and operational life cycle.

· Performance Management, improving organisational performance by developing the performance of individuals and workgroups to meet agreed objectives with measurable results.

· Employee Experience, enhancing employee engagement and ways of working, empowering employees and supporting their health and wellbeing.

· Organisational Facilitation, supporting workgroups to implement principles and practices for effective teamwork across organisational boundaries and professional specialisms.

· Professional Development, facilitating the professional development of individuals in line with their career goals and organisational requirements.

· Resourcing, acquiring, deploying and onboarding resources.

About You

  • Proven ability to operate at senior levels, engaging across all business areas.
  • Strong leadership, relationship, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in strategic, investment, and product planning aligned with business strategy.
  • Deep understanding of product management, agile methodologies, and emerging trends.
  • Financial management expertise linked to business results.
  • Experience in matrixed organisations, driving results across teams.
  • Familiarity with industry bodies of knowledge and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Experience of working within a heavily matrixed organisation, with the ability to drive for results

What You’ll Get

A competitive salary starting from £75,000 dependent on capability

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
