Reporting to the Director of Risk and Compliance, we’re looking for a Risk Manager who can influence at the highest levels, bring clarity to complexity, and help power critical decisions across our most important priorities. This position is based in Warwick, UK, with hybrid working. 

About the role

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that partners closely with senior leadership to shape and influence critical business decisions, including multi‑billion‑pound infrastructure investments. The position plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the clean energy transition, while also providing the opportunity to lead, develop, and grow a key capability within a critical risk function.

 

You’ll go beyond managing risk—you’ll enable progress across National Grid’s biggest priorities: 

  • Advance cleaner energy 
    Manage risks tied to decarbonization, grid transformation, and regulatory change 
  • Strengthen infrastructure investment 
    Provide insight and challenge on large-scale capital programs and system resilience 
  • Deliver for customers 
    Ensure risks impacting reliability, affordability, and service are proactively managed 
  • Drive better decisions 
    Translate complex risk into clear, actionable insights for executive leaders 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead delivery of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework 
  • Act as a trusted advisor to a Business Unit —providing challenge, insight, and solutions 
  • Coordinate and advise risk owners on risk identification, assessment, and analysis—delivering practical guidance aligned to policy and informed by industry best practice. 
  • Deliver executive-ready reporting to leadership and governance forums 
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of direct and/or virtual risk professionals 
  • Strengthen risk culture and continuously improve how we operate 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ post-qualification experience in risk management (or related field), including experience of operating across various areas of a 3 Lines Model, and leading ERM initiatives and leadership reporting. 
  • Experience gained in a large, complex organization (matrixed, multi business, regulated, or capital intensive). 
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in risk, business, finance, accounting, or a related discipline 
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., ERMCP, CRM, CRMP, ACA/ACCA/ICAS, CPA, CIA/CMIIA) 
  • Ability to provide expert risk advice and practical recommendations to stakeholders and leadership 
  • Strong communication skills—able to distil complex risk into clear, actionable insight 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and GRC systems 
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop team members 
  • Excellent planning and project management capability 
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a track record of driving value-add outcomes 
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to connect risk to strategy

What you'll get

A competitive salary up to £78k per annum– dependent on capability. 

28 days holiday, plus eight statutory days, an option to buy extra holiday days, and the option to holiday swap up to 3 bank holiday days.
An annual performance incentive of up to 30% of your eligible earnings in a performance year.
