National Grid is hiring a Lead Product Owner for our Electricity Distribution (NGED) team. We offer flexible working arrangements, including the option for home working. However, you will be required to be available for our quarterly planning meetings, which will take place at our offices in Bristol or Plymouth.
About The Role
We’re looking for a Lead Product Owner to drive strategic delivery across our product portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Product Management, you’ll lead a team of Product Owners, translating business goals into impactful product initiatives that deliver real user value.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll set direction, guide agile practices, and collaborate cross-functionally with tech, marketing, sales, and more. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring your team and fostering a high-performance, delivery-focused culture.

What You'll Do
- Define and execute the Product Ownership strategy, including roadmaps, backlog prioritisation, and alignment with business KPIs and commercial outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align product vision with business and technology strategy.
- Lead cross-functional teams (IT&D and Business) in planning and delivering digital products using Agile (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) frameworks.
- Ensure product delivery is commercially viable, technically sound, and aligned with architectural and operational standards.
- Champion Agile best practices and iterative delivery, embedding quality without over-engineering.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Product Managers, ensuring alignment across roadmaps and delivery priorities.
- Support team development through coaching, performance management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage third-party relationships to ensure delivery to scope, budget, and quality expectations.
- Deputise for the Head of Product Management when required, contributing to strategic decisions and leadership forums.

- Proven experience in a product-focused role
- Agile champion – experienced in delivering within agile frameworks
- Commercially savvy – prioritises effectively with a product mindset
- Confident decision-maker with strong stakeholder management skills
- Clear communicator – able to influence and engage technical and non-technical audiences
- Passionate about people – coaching, developing, and collaborating with high-performing teams
- Deep knowledge of the NGED product suite
- Calm under pressure – adaptable, responsive, and delivery-focused
- Emotionally intelligent – self-aware and mindful of your impact on others
- Always learning – driven to grow through training, trends, and mentoring

What You'll Get
- Competitive Salary: circa £77,000 - £88,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
