Investment Engineer
About the role
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) owns and operates the high‑voltage electricity network across England and Wales. As the network continues to evolve, we are committed to operating it safely and delivering a highly reliable supply for our customers. Effective control and operation of the network are central to achieving this.
As an Investment Engineer, you will shape, develop and manage investment proposals for upcoming and ongoing projects, through internal governance and external regulatory processes. You will lead future sanctions, capital investment stage gate reviews and associated engagement with Ofgem, ensuring investment cases are robust, compliant and aligned with delivery capability.
You will also play a key role in supporting the Control Centre programme by providing disciplined governance, assurance and coordination, maintaining a strong link between approved investment scope and delivery execution.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development and submission of investment sanctions, including business cases and supporting evidence.
- Own capital investment stage gate reviews with clearly defined and justified scope, cost, risk and benefits.
- Support and coordinate Ofgem submissions, responding promptly and accurately.
- Provide cost, risk and value assurance across investment proposals and approved work.
- Ensure alignment between sanctioned scope and delivery plans, supporting change control as needed.
- Work with engineering, operational, finance and programme teams to ensure proposals are deliverable.
- Produce clear investment reporting and insights to support decision‑making.
- Support programme governance forums and key investment decision points.
This role is based in Warwick and offers the flexibility of hybrid working.
What you'll need
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience in engineering, investment, finance or programme delivery.
- Experience in a regulated infrastructure or utilities environment.
- Strong understanding of investment governance, approvals and assurance.
- Experience developing business cases, investment submissions or regulatory funding justifications.
- Ability to analyse scope, cost, risk and benefits, and confidently challenge assumptions.
- Good understanding of programme and project delivery and associated governance.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
