Head of Strategic Enterprise Initiatives

Business Unit:  Strategy and Regulation
Requisition Number:  8780

About us

At National Grid, we bring energy to power possibilities.

We are investing around £70bn over five years in our networks in the UK and the US, with a range of ground-breaking projects to expand our networks. We operate across six business units in the UK and the north-east of the US, with group revenue around £18bn.

Our strategy is focussed on delivering the brilliant basics to lead on performance, driving big shifts to define our future, and building our delivery credibility to drive disciplined growth.

We are now recruiting for a Head of Strategic Enterprise Initiatives within our Strategy and UK External Affairs function, with this role fundamental in shaping and coordinating enterprise-wide strategic priorities across the company. This team sits at the centre of what we are trying to achieve as an organisation, as we strive to create value for society and the communities we serve.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Group Head of Strategy, this role is responsible for ensuring strategic objectives are aligned with financial planning, capital allocation, regulatory commitments, and operational delivery.

After a strategic review across the business, we have reshaped this role and the teams in this area, moving away from roles focussing on either our US or UK businesses, and towards a more company-wide approach. Whilst continuing to interact with our various business units, and other senior leaders across a range of functions, the person in post will need to bring an enterprise-wide perspective, and be comfortable operating with ambiguity and uncertainty.

This person will partner closely with Finance, Regulation, and Executive Leadership teams, acting as a bridge between long-term strategy and business performance. We are looking for a strong and visible people leader who can build a high-performing, engaged team, develop talent, and foster collaboration across functions, whilst ensuring strategic insight has a visible role in supporting executive and board-level decision-making.
