National Grid is hiring a Head of Platforms on a permanent basis. This position can be based at NG House, Warwick or the Strand, London. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of 4-5 days per month in the office. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.  

Job Purpose

As Head of Platforms, you'll define, deliver, and manage NGET’s technology platforms, ensuring they are scalable, secure, cost-effective, and aligned with our strategic objectives. You'll lead the development and execution of platform strategy, establish governance frameworks, and oversee the design and integration of core platforms.

What you'll do

 

  • Develop and communicate platform strategy and roadmaps
  • Lead demand management, strategic planning, and innovation initiatives
  • Oversee portfolio management and emerging technology monitoring
  • Manage system development, product lifecycle, and technology service delivery
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and partners
  • Lead, develop, and empower high-performing teams

 

About you

 

  • Experience setting strategy and direction for platforms and infrastructure, including cyber security
  • Familiarity with Microsoft platforms and Azure infrastructure
  • Ability to operate at executive level and build strong relationships across the business 
  • Knowledge of solution delivery, product models, and DevSecOps
  • Experience in IT strategic, investment, and programme planning
  • Strong financial management and benefits realisation skills
  • Experience in sourcing, service models, and partner relationship management
  • Degree-level qualification in an analytical or business-oriented discipline (MBA or DevSecOps certification desirable)
  • Leadership Qualities
