We’re looking for a passionate Head of OHL Operational Delivery to join our Overhead Lines Team!

 

You will ensure the OHL delivery team scales appropriately to meet demand while consistently maintaining the highest levels of safety and sustainability. You will assure that all work delivered and activities undertaken are executed to the highest quality standards, in line with relevant procedures, standards, and legislative requirements associated with occupier duties. Owning the strategy, direction, and operational leadership of the national team, you will collaborate effectively to drive the most efficient approach across all operational teams, leading by example through continuous performance improvement and effective performance management. Recognising the growing demand for network access, you will build and sustain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, anticipate future needs, and ensure his team provides safe system access and commissions new assets efficiently, supporting customer requirements while maintaining a resilient and reliable network.

 

This role can be based out of our Warwick or one of our Operational Sites, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week with some regional travel but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all aspects of operational delivery, including training, risk management, business continuity, performance, and the implementation of new methods, processes, policies, and strategies.  Identify and manage operational risks to enable safe, innovative, and efficient operational delivery.
  • Accountable for SHEQW (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Wellbeing) standards ensuring adherence to legislation and standards.
  • Assure emergency planning and preparedness including standby, emergency response and restoration, ensuring the team is fully competent and trained to ensure effective delivery of planned and unplanned requirements.
  • Lead and motivate the operational teams to deliver results on time, to required quality and safe standards, within required cost parameters to fulfil the business plan.  Understand, review, and make decisions on the support and focus needed on specific KPIs to assure and enable delivery, considering in-year changes and unplanned pressures.
  • Develop and maintain a network of key influencers and stakeholders that support operations, working with the OHL Operations Director and the broader AO team to oversee and assess all areas of the operations team to identify and strategic ambitions and needs.
  • Lead, develop, and embed a culture of effective change management to adapt to, optimise, to enable effective delivery of OHL self-delivered works.  You will originate, champion, and lead initiatives for change to enable efficient work delivery and improve business efficiency.  Seek out, share and implement both internal & external best practice to drive continuous improvement.

What You'll Have

  • Degree level qualification or comparable industry experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in an operational environment, ensuring key messages are clear and understood
  • Experience of supervision, line management/ matrix team management.
  • Able to work across workstreams and delivery units, builds relationships with key stakeholders and can identify opportunities to continually improve the efficiency of self-delivery options or SAP provision.
  • You have the credibility to provide technical leadership to the team and to set clear technical expectations to all those working on the network.
  • Practical experience leading all aspects of operational delivery, including but not limited to, training, risk, business continuity, performance, implement and manage new methods, processes, policies and strategies for operations
  • Can demonstrate a deep understanding and proven track record of safety and risk management in operational environments.
  • Experience of leading a high performing team using best practice tools and methods  
  • Senior stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a disciplined approach to change management, programme and project performance, governance and benefits management.
