Finance Business Partner

Business Unit:  Finance and Enterprise Business Services
Requisition Number:  3894

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid provides the environment for our teams to thrive and make a real impact. As we drive momentum in the energy transition for all, we are committed to ensuring that every employee feels empowered and engaged. So, join us as a Finance Business Partner, and find your superpower.

We’re hiring for a number of passionate Finance Business Partners across our Electricity Transmission (ET) Finance team to support business partnering activities within one of the areas of our ET business.

You will be part of the CFO function that supports the ET business where we maintain the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. We take electricity generated from windfarms and other power sources and transport it through our network of pylons, overhead lines, cables, and substations. It then goes on to separate lower voltage local distribution networks, which connect directly to homes and businesses. The CFO function is critical to delivering our ambitions in ET, and this role plays a key part in setting financial clarity and insights to support strong performance management, providing financial business partnering to a key area of the National Grid business.

Our team provides both business and financial leadership, working across the ET business to ensure business leaders understand their financial performance in the context of our regulatory framework and the commitments we have made to our shareholders. We support the business to find opportunities to embed efficiencies that drive value for shareholders and consumers, and we provide insight and challenge where we see risks to performance.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week with some regional travel but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do:

  • You’ll be a key point of contact for Finance to the Leadership Team in ET, supporting them and their management team in their decision making.
  • You will hold the business accountable from “plan to performance.” You will ensure that financial forecasts are based on stretching but credible assumptions, driving insight from a combination of business and financial performance data to build confidence that performance will be delivered, and instigate early discussion and action where performance is at risk.
  • You will ensure that investment decisions are made with the right financial rigor – so that the accounting and the regulatory impact of spend is understood, and the business are clear about how the investment will impact their financial targets.
  • You will navigate ambiguity, take initiative, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Pivot to address ad hoc requests as they arise in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Proactively build relationships, drive accountability and balance the needs of finance and business stakeholders.

What You'll Have:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) with experience in planning, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Comfortable balancing business support with challenging conversations to drive performance.
  • Skilled at working within a matrix structure, reporting into Finance while building strong relationships across Finance Business Partners, Controllership, and Investment Management teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and iterate effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, matrix environment.
  • Highly attentive to detail with an inquisitive, self-starter mindset.
  • Advanced analytical skills: able to synthesize large datasets and deliver insights that inform decisions.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with SAP, SAC, Alteryx, and PowerBI is a plus.
  • Financial modelling, data consolidation, and data analysis (MS Excel) experience.
  • Commercial finance experience advantageous.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Get:

£66,000 - £74,000, dependent on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 15% (with a maximum of 30%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
