National Grid is hiring an Enterprise Architect(OT) position. This role is designated as hybrid, with an expectation of one or two days per month in the Warwick, UK office. Requirements may vary based on business needs and company policy.
About the Role
We are hiring an Operations Technology (OT) Enterprise Architect to define and govern end-to-end architectures that enable safe, reliable, and scalable digitalization of grid infrastructure across the UK and US. This role drives IT/OT convergence, establishes reference architectures and global blueprints, and partners with engineering, operations, product, and vendors to deliver modern control-center, substation, edge, and telecom capabilities.
What You'll Do
Grid Infrastructure Digitalization
• Drive the synergy between US and UK deployments of SCADA / Network Operations.
• Lead the IoT / Asset Health initiative in the UK in conjunction with US activities.
• Drive the next stage of Protection and Control product and technology.
• Participate in the architecture of software IEDs and related DevOps functions.
Digital / Intelligent Substation
• Drive the global blueprints and designs of ISS V2.0.
• Manage communities of practice (CoPs) related to US/UK substation engineering.
• Lead architecture activities related to vendor testing and selection.
• Lead the design under the Intelligent Substation 2.0 umbrella of the red/blue framework philosophy.
• Collaborate with the US for AI deployment within OT (SubstationIQ).
Microsoft Global Deliverables
• Support the product manager to deliver a roadmap of the MiniEdge.
• Define and deliver products requiring real-time development in support of IT/OT convergence.
EA Strategy Development
• Lead the enterprise architecture service to integrate UK IT/OT capabilities.
• Co-deliver an IT/OT reference architecture.
• Drive UK NetOps architecture governance to ensure a globally consolidated design of services.
• Lead Common Information Model (CIM) adoption as part of IT/OT data integration.
Telecom, SDN / OPTEL, and OT AI Architectures
• Ensure consistency and support the development of a common framework for next-generation telecommunication infrastructures affecting inter- and intra-substation data exchange with grid management systems to reduce costs and improve asset integration.
• Implement Control Center AI and Grid Edge-AI reference architectures consistently across the UK and the US to accelerate deployment of next-generation applications and related automation practices.
• Serve as an OT enterprise architecture subject matter expert (SME) across initiatives.
About You
- 10+ years of experience as an enterprise/solution architect in Operations Technology (OT) domains (e.g., utilities, grid operations, industrial control systems).
- Hands-on knowledge of Substation Technologies and systems, SCADA and control-center operations and/or network operations in regulated, safety-critical environments.
- Proven ability to define reference architectures, standards, and governance processes across multiple teams and geographies.
- Experience with IT/OT convergence patterns (identity, networking, telemetry, data integration, and cybersecurity considerations).
- Strong stakeholder management skills; able to translate between engineering, operations, and product.
