Delivery Strategy Lead

Business Unit:  Strategic Infrastructure
Requisition Number:  5288

About the role

Superpower your career.

National Grid Strategic Infrastructure (SI) delivers the projects that enable the UK’s transition to Net Zero. To ensure success, our investment workbook must be deliverable from the outset. The Delivery Strategy team seeks to provide answers to questions such as: What system access do we require and how do we secure it? What equipment do we need to procure to deliver the workbook and how do we ensure there is sufficient capacity in the supply chain? How do we optimise the delivery of the workbook alongside the wider NGET portfolio?

We're seeking an enthusiastic Delivery Strategy Lead to help shape these decisions and influence project outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of projects critical to achieving Net Zero. Applicants should be passionate about the energy transition and bring one or more of the following capabilities: technical, commercial, or strategy development expertise.

This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

Key accountabilities

  • Own delivery strategy workstreams, identifying risks and opportunities, and provide clear recommendations, templates and assurance to shape how projects are developed and delivered. This will require close coordination with the other Development Strategy Leads in the team.
  • Develop the ‘toolkit’ of levers at our disposal to improve the deliverability of projects, consider implications across our portfolio, and clearly articulate the time, resource and other deliverability impacts versus business-as-usual processes.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across SI and the wider business to collect relevant information for the development of robust delivery strategies, generate insights, and justify recommendations that maximise deliverability and consumer value.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support internal and external workstreams.
  • Contribute to option or portfolio reviews to ensure [a] a consistent approach to developing delivery strategies [b] wider strategic business drivers are considered in the same way across all projects and [c] deliverability assurance.
  • Conduct first-line reviews of Investment Cases to provide deliverability assurance.
  • Represent SI in NGET forums, promoting whole-system thinking and ensuring SI requirements are considered.
  • Provide advisory support to Project Development teams.

About you

  • Strategic thinker with ability to see the bigger picture and think beyond existing parameters.
  • Curious and proactive learner, driven to explore and understand deliverability issues.
  • Well organised, skilled in collecting, structuring and analysing data and information effectively.
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills to translate research and analysis into clear insights and recommendations
  • Collaborative team player with experience of working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Relevant technical/professional qualification such as Degree or equivalent in economics or management.
  • Experience in project delivery and knowledge of the energy sector is desirable.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £68,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
