About the role

 

National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.

 

As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

 

We are currently recruiting for a Data Scientist in Interconnectors within the NGV portfolio. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for ensuring that these models within the business are underpinned by robust data, developing new models and undertaking analysis to aid decision making.

 

If you are an experienced data scientist or have experience within practical modelling projects and machine learning experience with exposure to SQL and Python we would love to hear from you!

This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

What you'll do

 

  • Performing complex analysis on multiple data sets to help determine the optimal auction strategy and volume allocation.
  • Constant evaluation and maintenance of existing data pipelines and models that underpin the analysis behind the short-to-medium term commercial decision-making process, including identifying required enhancements and updating as required. Experience of working with data warehouses (i.e. Snowflake) is desirable.
  • Working with other team members to develop proof-of-concept models and developing into production.
  • Gathering requirements for data and model improvements and liaising with data and database owners and other team members to deliver enhancements.

 

 

What you'll need

 

  • Experience of handling significant quantities of data, knowledge of data handling techniques, experience of using databases, statistics and machine learning
  • Experience of developing, implementing, running and maintaining models and tools to meet business requirements.Highly analytical and quantitative – demonstrated ability to critically review modelled inputs and outputs.
  • Experience of analysing modelled outputs to answer business questions and the ability to present conclusions to varied stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, Pandas, and relevant machine learning libraries (note: evidence of this may be sought at interview).
  • Knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures, policies and regulations, market fundamentals and recent trends is desirable.

 

 

What you'll get

 

A competitive salary between £48,374.00 - £57,000.00– dependent on capability.

 

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
