National Grid is hiring a Customer Connection Policy Manager - This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options.
Job Purpose
The Customer Connections Policy Manager role is a vital position, not only to define, maintain and advocate for NGET’s strategic position on customer connection policy, but to coordinate efforts from across the ET business, the NG Group, and our external partners to deliver effective outcomes in a timely manner.
We need a passionate, persuasive, strategic thinker; an individual who can appreciate the bigger picture whilst reconciling against the operational landscape; someone who can communicate our vision for the future to reach consensus, whilst keeping an eye that we deliver on our ambitions
What You'll Do
- On behalf of the NGET business, own, evolve, and communicate our strategic position on key ongoing customer connection policy initiatives – with a focus on Demand.
- Collaborate and engage with key stakeholders across NGET, NG Group, and externally (e.g. government, regulator, other networks, and our customers) to drive successful policy outcomes in a timely manner to achieve our strategic aims.
- Identify policy delivery risks, dependencies and implementation impacts, and provide clear advice to senior leaders on mitigations and trade-offs.
- Ensure NGET provides effective representation from relevant subject matter experts in important policy change forums externally.
- Coordinate internally with key process owners to ensure our policy direction is compatible with existing ways of working or support the business in understanding policy changes so the business can update processes and systems for implementation.
- Lead the creation of compelling written content, particularly consultation responses, to enable NGET to lead the discussion on connection policy development externally, prompting discussion and ultimately buy-in for our lobbying positions.
- Provide effective people leadership through direct line management and wider stakeholder management.
- Represent National Grid’s values as a leader, people manager, and externally visible representative of our business.
About You
- Strong knowledge of the regulatory landscape, particularly the commercial framework arrangements governing GB connections.
- Expert stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments as well as externally.
- Expert communication skills – both verbal and written – with the ability to articulate complex topics in an engaging, accessible, manner for our stakeholders regardless of their seniority.
- Appreciation of change management processes, particularly project management and risk/issue intervention.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence others, either through direct line management or stakeholder relationships, to deliver outcomes that sit beyond individual role or team boundaries.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £62,000 – £77,000 dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
