We’re looking for a passionate Commercial & Portfolio Manager – Property Projects to join our Asset Operations team!

 

You lead a multi‑disciplined team to outperform National Grid’s regulatory commitments on property project outcomes and incentives. You provide end‑to‑end management of the Property project portfolio, ensuring investments are delivered to cost and programme while driving the timely progression of projects from pre‑construction through to sanction, tendering and procurement, contract award, handover to delivery, and close‑out. You support the delivery of the RIIO‑T3 business plan and act as the key interface for stakeholders across the wider organisation, coordinating and enabling the successful delivery of operational estate works.

 

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Lead their team to provide end-to-end portfolio ownership, accountability, and management.
  • Tracking and reporting on investment and portfolio cost, programme and other KPIs performance in line with regulatory requirements and outperformance targets.
  • Unit cost management for asset portfolio including maintaining a live narrative on cost performance for portfolio of investments.
  • Support the completion of Regulatory Reporting Packs (RRPs) and the eventual close-out of RIIO-T2 for their specific asset investment portfolio.
  • Procurement Gate sign-off for specific asset portfolio.
  • Feasibility of standard designs applicable to portfolio, optioneering and development.
  • Ensure that all required investment documentation across all project phases is completed to the highest possible standard and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the construction programme accounts for all known delivery risks and CDM considerations, including construction safety, health, environment, and sustainability.
  • Ensure work scope for portfolio of investments is fully scoped with costs accurately forecast.
  • Ensure optimal contracting and delivery strategies are employed on portfolio of projects along with agreed value levers to enable outperformance.
  • Manage the budget for all pre-construction work and activities on portfolio of investments.
  • Manage FEED (Front End Engineering Design) and ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) contracts were used on portfolio of investments.
  • Ensure that core data for their portfolio of investments is maintained to the highest levels of quality and accuracy.
  • Ensure that lessons learnt from completed and in-flight investments, including lessons from analysis of compensation events are fed into early investment phases so that the engineered solutions deliver the essential scope at optimal cost.
  • Deliver training, coaching and support across the department to increase technical, financial, programme, risk and safety knowledge and understanding.
  • Ensure that team members requiring authorisations to carry out specific roles maintain their authorised status.

What You'll Have

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Proven track record within a commercial environment.
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent desirable.
  • Proficient knowledge in Contract Management and demonstrated commercial acumen.
  • Advanced understanding of management of contingency across all project / investment phases.
  • Proficient understanding of National Grid’s financial forecasting and control processes.
  • Proficient understanding and demonstrable working knowledge of key business processes and governance.
  • Understanding of RIIO mechanisms and the way that National Grid delivers revenue under the regulatory framework.
  • Accomplished knowledge and application of CDM, Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Proficient project management skills including management of time, cost, safety, and risk.
  • Expert at engaging stakeholders and working collaboratively to remove blockers.
  • Experienced at developing teams and delivering high quality results.
  • Advanced business writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and an appetite for continuous improvement in relation to both their own development and that of the team.
  • Demonstrable experience of identifying and implementing business improvement initiatives that have led to cost saving and /or improved efficiency.

What You'll Get

Up to £75,000 dependent on experience.

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 15% (with a maximum of 30%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
