Commercial Officer
We’re looking for a passionate Commercial Officer to join our Commercial Team!
As the owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network, the organisation is investing £29 billion in the energy system and is seeking to engage an experienced professional in contract management and administration who is ready to take on greater responsibility and use this role as a stepping stone into management while working on high‑value, complex schemes. Within Strategic Infrastructure, the Commercial Officer will support the Commercial and Contracts Manager and collaborate with Quantity Surveyors across multiple contractual interfaces throughout the project lifecycle, with primary responsibility for non‑EPC contracts and key contract management and cost control activities.
The role involves leading commercial input into procurement and tender processes, supporting robust procurement governance, negotiating pricing and terms and conditions, advising project stakeholders, analysing supplier and market data, managing purchase orders and invoice queries, drafting and reviewing contractual documentation, maintaining accurate contract records and key dates, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements, and identifying and escalating contractual risks while working closely with project teams and joint venture partners.
This role is based at our Warwick office, and we continue to offer hybrid working and hope to see you in the office at least 2 days per week. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You'll Do
Contract Management:
- Support the Commercial and Contracts Manager (and where required lead) in reviewing and managing contracts throughout their lifecycle.
- Monitor and interpret supplier performance against contractual KPIs and SLAs.
- Production and analysis of commercial reports.
- Monitor and manage contract renewals, variations, call off contracts via the National Grid frameworks etc.
Procurement:
- Drive the development and execution of procurement across the project teams for National Grid and for the JV.
- Point of contact for any procurement support and strategies within NG and JV.
- Support in the collation and issuing tender documentation, manage tender processes, and support evaluations.
- Ensure procurement activity complies with internal policies, public procurement regulations, and best practices.
- Support contract negotiations to secure optimal commercial and legal terms.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work collaboratively with internal departments to understand procurement and commercial needs.
- Provide commercial advice and training to stakeholders as required.
- Develop effective relationships with key suppliers and partners.
Financial & Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate commercial and supply chain risks relevant to the projects.
- Support forecasting, monitoring budgets and cost saving initiatives.
- Raise/manage Purchase Orders and support JV & Finance teams with reconciliations.
What You'll Have
- Undergraduate degree or commensurate experience working in a commercial / contract management environment.
- Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply, or the International Association for Contract and Commercial Management.
- Driving Licence.
- Previous experience in procurement or contract management / administration role.
- Experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC terms and conditions (or equivalent).
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstratable experience of leading and challenging whilst having the ability to propose solutions and manage outputs to resolution
- High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

What You'll Get
Up to £55,000 dependent on experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
