National Grid is hiring an Assurance Manager for our National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) team. This position is based in our Warwick location, with hybrid working.

About the role:

As an Assurance Manager at National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), you’ll play a pivotal role in strengthening our risk and control environment. You’ll lead a team of assurance professionals to deliver high-quality second-line assurance, providing independent oversight, challenge, and support to help NGET achieve its strategic objectives.

 

This role is central to delivering the NGET Assurance Plan, embedding the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework, and ensuring our assurance activities provide meaningful insight, drive continual improvement, and enable informed decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

•         Lead and develop a team of Senior Assurance Specialists, Leads, and Analysts, to deliver high quality second line assurance.

•         Build, manage, and deliver the annual second-line assurance programme, reporting outcomes to senior leadership and governance forums.

•         Provide expert advice, oversight, support and challenge to the first line on risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and control design.

•         Deliver high-quality, timely assurance reports, ensuring findings are well-evidenced, pragmatic, and value-adding.

•         Support the Head of Risk & Controls in implementing the controls assurance strategy and embedding the Group risk framework across NGET.

•         Facilitate and contribute to NGET Risk Committee meetings, risk deep dives, and management forums.

•         Coordinate with other business areas to align assurance activities with the Corporate Audit Plan, other assurance providers and wider Group priorities.

•         Ensure effective use of Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) tooling across NGET.

•         Drive continual improvement in assurance methods and practices, aligning with international standards (ISO 9001, 45001, 55001, 14001, 22301).

•         Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, building strong relationships and influencing the organisation’s risk culture.

What you'll bring:

•         Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

•         Proven experience in risk management, internal controls, assurance, or audit.

•         Deep understanding of the Three Lines Model and enterprise risk management frameworks.

•         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise, insightful reports for Executive audiences.

•         Ability to maintain independence, integrity, and objectivity while building trusted stakeholder relationships.

•         Agile and adaptable mindset, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

•         Analytical thinker with a focus on root-cause analysis, pragmatic recommendations, and continuous improvement.

•         Relevant degree (business, accounting, risk, or related field) and professional qualification desirable (e.g. Enterprise Risk Management Certified Professional (ERMCP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Risk Manager Professional (CRMP),Associate/ Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA/ICAS), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (CMIIA)/ Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

 

What you'll get:

A competitive salary between £70,000 – £80,000 – dependent on capability


As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
