National Grid is hiring for a Asset Lifecycle Engineer – Protection & FACTS - This positions can be based from our Warwick, Bristol, West Weybridge or Leeds offices (however we can be open to other locations across the country.) Hybrid Working model.

Job Purpose
Electricity Transmission (ET) is navigating through an exciting time as we evolve to meet net-zero targets for 2050. Joining us as an Asset Management Engineer you will support the development of all aspects of the lifecycle of Protection or FACTS assets for the electricity transmission system. Focussing on transmission level voltages you’ll be working at the heart of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Asset Management and Engineering department within Asset Operations to meet the aspirations of Net Zero and the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade.
From assessing cutting-edge technology to travelling to meet suppliers to witness equipment testing and operational sites, your work will ensure the system runs efficiently and reliably. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with external stakeholders, staying at the forefront of regulatory and industry developments. What you'll do
- Provide detailed, technical and asset management knowledge in the area above depending on experience.
- Be involved across the whole lifecycle of the specific asset category.
- Create and amend policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance within area of expertise.
- Support the development of the Technical Strategy and identify the need for appropriate intervention strategies across our protection portfolio and identify innovation opportunities.
- Support the development of virtual team working to take advantage of technology and methodology developments within specific area of technical expertise.
- Undertake Type Registration activities in line with relevant procedures with limited supervision.
- Support external engagement - Regulatory & Energy Industry Understanding.
- Represent National Grid on appropriate national and international committees influencing the direction of national policy, standard or specifications.
- Support other members of the team.
About you
You will be a self-starter who is eager to develop your business and technical skills, with the following qualifications and attributes:
Must Haves:
- Proven experience in the specification, design, development, and lifetime management of protection equipment and interfacing equipment.
- A numerate degree or demonstrable experience in a relevant STEM area or industry.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.
- Membership or the ability to be a member of a relevant professional body.
- Ability to thrive when working to challenging deadlines.
- Able to communicate issues associated with your area of expertise in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, with experience and knowledge of the operational aspects of the work.
Desirable
- Knowledge of asset management systems such as IBM Maximo.
- Institute of Asset Management “Principles of Asset Management” certificate.
- Chartered Status with a relevant professional body.
