VP - STREAMs Business Lead
Job Purpose
At National Grid, we are replacing our Electric Asset and Work Management systems. This will enable us to define our future processes, systems, and operating model, and transform how we manage our assets and deliver work for our customers. This program will cover our NY and NE businesses, and will require close integration with our Electric businesses in those jurisdictions, as well as the IT organization. The program is foundational to the future success of the business, and will establish the way in which thousands of our employees work to deliver on behalf of our customers for many years to come.
The Business Operational Lead (BOL) is a critical role to help us evolve our business to stay ahead of the curve on this transformation so that we deliver for our customers. The BOL will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of the future processes, systems, and operating model that manages, plans, repairs, maintains, constructs, and connects to our networks.
Success in this role is measured through the successful achievement of these objectives:
- Deliver capital at significantly increased pace and scale
- Increase the speed to connect of DER generation and new loads
- Significantly improve reliability
- Meet growing customer service expectations
- Reduction in the cost of service; delivering operating and capital cost efficiencies
- Improvements in employee engagement
To deliver these outcomes, the BOL needs to reimagine how we plan, design, resource, schedule, dispatch, and complete work. This role manages a team of 4-6 direct reports (30-50 indirect), and works closely with the STREAMs IT Lead, and between them they oversee a program budget of $200m.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deploy a compelling vision, objectives, and associated KPIs
- Inspire and motivate the electric organizations around the vision, new processes, technology, and associated changes
- Ensure that the business requirements for the new EAM, SDM, and GWD systems are aligned to the vision
- Partner with key stakeholders to validate the program approach and overall design to fulfill program objectives
- Lead program implementation and ensure that the impact on our employees is managed and communicated clearly and positively
- Design the future operational organization
- Support the investment case with the regulators by providing supporting information for rate cases and regular engagement. Provide testimony if needed
- Work with HR to engage the unions in the change, developing a stakeholder plan to build consensus and alignment
Candidate profile
- Experience leading large enterprise transformation programs (ideally using Maximo software)
- Background within a unionized environment would be strongly preferred
- Experience in utility operations (ideally electricity), with the ability to demonstrate how they will apply that experience
- Strong relationship building skills, demonstrating emotional intelligence and possessing an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
- Transformational leadership with a strong desire to implement best practice processes across NE and NY
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including persuasion and the ability to explain complex issues
- Strong leadership and team management abilities with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal groups, especially between NE and NY
- Proven ability to deliver to time, cost, and quality in a program environment
- Bachelor’s degree
Salary: Circa $208,000 - $312,000 a year.
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
Location: the role can be based in either New York or Massachusetts.
