About the Role

The CFO for National Grid Ventures’ US business unit (“NGV US”) is hiring a Senior Finance Business Partner – Complex Financial Modeling to produce and communicate the financial insights required to make informed commercial and investment decisions across NGV US’ diverse portfolio of energy assets and projects.  National Grid Ventures (NGV) is building the resilient and affordable energy networks of the future. We operate across the UK, Europe and US, developing, operating, and investing in large-scale energy infrastructure projects.  NGV runs separately from National Grid plc’s core regulated operations and is focused on building and operating the infrastructure needed to generate and transport energy to keep the lights on for millions of energy users.  NGV US is a key part of NGV and includes:


•    National Grid Generation, a fleet of nearly 4 GW of conventional electric generation on Long Island, New York
•    National Grid LNG, an LNG storage and liquefaction facility in Providence, Rhode Island
•    New York Transco, a joint venture with New York’s other electric transmission utilities that owns, operates, and develops competitive transmission projects in New York
•    A business development team focused on originating and delivering competitive transmission projects in the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Midwest regions of the US

What You'll Do

•    Build and maintain complex full-life financial models to support informed decision making
•    Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of how NGV US’ businesses make money and the risks that impact the businesses’ ability to deliver their financial performance
•    Scope and perform sensitivity analyses within financial models using automation and artificial intelligence
•    Support production of investment decision papers presented to National Grid’s Investment Committee and Board with financial metrics derived from the complex financial models (e.g., IRR, NPV, payback period, earnings impact, credit rating metrics, debt metrics)
•    Use financial models to develop scenarios to be included in National Grid’s recurring financial forecast (e.g., quarterly rolling forecasts and annual strategic business plans)
•    Build and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and subject matter experts in Business Development, Finance, Accounting, Insurance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Market Fundamentals, etc. to enable integration of relevant expertise and inputs into financial models
•    Deliver excellent customer service to the NGV US business as a senior member of the customer-facing Finance Business Partnering team
•    Become a trusted partner to the NGV US business and the go-to source for financial insights
•    Adapt communication of complex financial concepts to a range of financial and non-financial stakeholders to drive informed decision making

What You'll Need

•    Extensive experience (10+ years) building and maintaining complex financial models within the energy industry
•    Experience modeling key concepts like rate base, AFUDC, return on rate base, return of rate base / depreciation, current and deferred income taxes, accelerated tax depreciation, tax credits, interest coverage ratios, electric energy and capacity revenue, operating costs specific to energy infrastructure, three-statement models, etc.
•    Experience modeling IFRS and U.S. GAAP based financial statements
•    Knowledge of financial modelling best practices
•    Microsoft Excel power user
•    Experience performing Monte Carlo simulations
•    Experience integrating macros, automation, and artificial intelligence into financial models
•    Knowledge of energy markets and how regulated and unregulated energy companies make money
•    Extreme attention to detail
•    Commercial mindset
•    Innate curiosity about how businesses make money and how to translate this into financial models
•    Self-starter, driven, and motivated to deliver results and continuously improve
•    Ability to prioritize work and support multiple projects/teams at once
•    Ability to communicate complex financial concepts in a clear, concise, and impactful way
•    Comfort working through ambiguity and supporting projects across NGV US’s diverse portfolio of businesses
•    Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and utilize internal networks
•    Passionate about doing the right thing
•    Comfortable speaking up, even in difficult situations
•    Experience working in a large organization with multidisciplinary teams

Annual Salary

Waltham and surrounding areas:  $181,000-$213,000

Brooklyn and surrounding areas:  $194,000-$228,000

 

Salary commensurate with experience and location.
