Senior Engineer, Gas Asset Engineering

National Grid is hiring a Senior Engineer, Gas Asset Management and Engineering for our MA Future of Heat team. This hybrid role is based in Waltham, MA.

The Role
The Senior Engineer focuses on developing the non-pipeline alternatives (NPA) assessment process, which will include continuing to develop digital assessment tools. They also partner with asset engineers to integrate the climate compliance requirements into the Company’s risk-based asset management strategy.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with current gas and electric process owners to identify process enhancements to evaluate NPAs to gas infrastructure investments
- Assist the technical team with program support in the development of NPA and Integrated Energy Planning (IEP) software applications
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement NPA frameworks, establish IEP best practices and other future of heat initiatives
- Support implementation of the Company’s networked geothermal project and targeted electrification demonstration program
- Provide engineering support for the Company’s decarbonization efforts, which includes regulatory filings, white paper collaboration and research activities
About You
- Bachelors’ degree in an engineering discipline required, ABET-accreditation preferred
- 5+ years of experience in an engineering or technical project role required
- Previous gas planning experience utilizing Synergi gas hydraulic modeling software or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience or training with decarbonization technologies such as geothermal heating systems, renewable natural gas projects or hydrogen engineering projects preferred
- Previous experience developing long and short-term investment plans using risk-based gas asset management principles preferred
- Exceptional verbal and written communication required
- Strong computer skills, proficiency with MS Office Suite required
- Experience with utility work management systems, advanced SQL queries and data models, advanced Python skills and managing large-scale data systems across cloud and enterprise platforms preferred
- Valid driver’s license required

Salary
$123,000 - $144,000 a year
