National Grid is hiring a Media and PR Manager for our New England Corporate Affairs team. This position will be based out of either Boston or Waltham, MA. 

Job Purpose

The Media and PR Manager for National Grid’s New England business will play a key role in supporting media relations and public affairs efforts that promote and protect the company’s reputation. Reporting to the NE Director of Strategic Communications, this position will collaborate across business units and with senior colleagues to help shape strategic messaging, engage media outlets, and identify proactive storytelling opportunities that influence public perception. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings precision and initiative to every task.

Key Accountabilities

•    Develop and implement specific media strategies, including proactive earned media, creative storytelling content, and speaking engagements aligned with business goals and reputational priorities.
•    Align messaging framework, narratives, and collateral across all units of the New England business in support of company objectives.  
•    Draft and edit company statements press releases, briefing documents, talking points, and other communications content.
•    Engage with senior executives to support strategic communications initiatives, ensuring alignment with leadership priorities and delivering high-impact messaging.
•    Develop and maintain relationships with key members of the media.
•    Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal teams to gather information for reactive and proactive communications materials.
•    Prepare briefing materials and assist in planning and logistics for media events, site visits, and interviews.
•    Stay current on industry trends, media tools, and best practices to continuously improve communications output.
•    Provide support during storm or emergency situations, ensuring timely and effective messaging.

Qualifications

 

•    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
•    Minimum 7 years of experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs (corporate, agency, government, or nonprofit).
•    Direct experience in corporate communications, media relations, or journalism, ideally within a regulated, political, or policy environment.
•    Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail and ability to craft compelling narratives.
•    Demonstrated ability to manage communications in high-pressure or crisis situations.
•    Strong relationship-building skills with journalists and media outlets.
•    Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•    Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate communications needs and identify emerging trends in media and public discourse.
•    Self-directed, proactive, and resourceful.
•    Familiarity with media monitoring tools and digital communications platforms.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

Salary

$140k - $175k a year
