Job Purpose

The Manager of Social Impact and Volunteering (NE) will be responsible for the development and implementation of social impact and volunteering initiatives for New England. Supporting the Director of US Community Engagement and Investment, with a dotted line to the Senior Director, Operations, Social Impact & Community Engagement, the Manager of Social Impact and Volunteering for NE will focus on promoting access to STEM/STEAM education and driving access to careers in the energy sector, and advancing a culture of civic engagement and aligning volunteer initiatives with National Grid’s corporate social responsibility goals and the Responsible Business Charter. 

 

The Manager will leverage corporate giving, strategic partnerships, and innovative programming to achieve measurable impact within the communities National Grid serves.  In addition, the Manager will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations, oversee volunteer program operations and reporting, and champion volunteer engagement by broadly promoting opportunities that encourage employee participation and community impact. 

 

This position will have a dedicated storm/emergency response role.

Key Accountabilities

Social Impact: 

  • Focus on increasing access to STEM and STEAM education, and building a robust clean energy workforce. This includes setting measurable goals, tracking progress, and regularly reporting on impact. 
  • Leveraging corporate giving to support non-profit organizations providing STEM education for teachers and young people, inspiring the next generation of energy professionals. 
  • Directing funding towards job training and upskilling programs that equip community members with the skills needed for in-demand energy roles. 
  • Building strategic partnerships with educational institutions, community organizations, and workforce development agencies to maximize program reach and effectiveness. 
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners. 
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting requirements. 

Volunteering: 

  • Oversee the administration of volunteer initiatives, including individual and team-based opportunities. 
  • Co-manage National Grid’s volunteer platform, ensuring efficient tracking, reporting and recognition of volunteer data. 
  • Support the development, refinement and execution of a comprehensive global volunteer strategy aligned with National Grid’s social impact objectives; use data-driven insights to recommend program enhancements and drive continuous improvement. 
  • Lead the design of programs that encourage employee participation, enhance skills development, and address community needs, including the development of programs to recognize and celebrate employee contributions through awards, internal communications, and events. 
  • Drive the integration of volunteerism into the company’s broader corporate social responsibility framework, including developing training, resources and mentorship to interested employees.  
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure volunteer programs align with business goals and values.  
  • Assist in determining that all volunteer activities comply with legal, safety, and ethical standards. 

Cross-cutting Accountabilities: 

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of initiatives with corporate objectives and community needs. 
  • Monitoring and evaluating program performance, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement. 
  • Preparing reports and presentations program outcomes, successes, challenges, and strategic recommendations.  
  • Support the development of advocacy materials and communication strategies to promote social impact initiatives. 
  • Staying informed about industry trends and best practices in social impact, volunteering, and community engagement to inform program design and implementation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience 
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proven experience in program management, volunteer management, community engagement, STEM/STEAM education and/or social impact initiatives, preferably within the nonprofit or corporate sectors 
  • Strong understanding of social mobility issues and best practices in skills development. 
  • Strong understanding of the education, energy policy and volunteering context in New England 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence diverse stakeholders. 
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with project/volunteer management tools 
  • Proficiency with Benevity, Cybergrants, and other Customer Relationship Management platforms preferred

Salary

$125k - $147k a year in Waltham, MA or Boston, MA
