Job Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled Site Investigation & Remediation Project Manager (Lead Engineer) to manage complex environmental investigation and remediation projects for our company. This role is crucial in ensuring the protection of human health and the environment while maintaining regulatory compliance and cost-effective project execution.
As a Lead Engineer, you will work closely with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and external contractors to develop and implement remediation strategies that align with company requirements and industry best practices. This is an opportunity to play a key role in environmental stewardship and work in the utility industry.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement investigation/remediation programs for contaminated sites, primarily manufactured gas plants (MGPs).
- Provide technical expertise in site characterization, risk assessment, and remedial action design.
- Manage consultants and contractors, ensuring projects meet safety, regulatory, and budgetary requirements.
- Monitor project financials, tracking costs, forecasting liabilities, and supporting rate recovery efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and internal teams (Legal, Gas & Electric Operations, Media, and Community Affairs) to facilitate project success.
- Support internal decision-making by providing technical insights on remediation strategies, permitting requirements, and emerging environmental issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology/Geology) or other relevant engineering discipline (Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering) required.
- 8+ years of experience in site investigation and remediation project management required.
- Completion of OSHA HazWoper40 training required.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and remediation technologies (experience with Massachusetts regulations required).
- Professional certification/licensure (PE, LSP, LEP, CHMM, PG) preferred.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects, manage budgets, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- A valid driver's license with safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy required.
Salary
$132,000 - $155,000 a year
