Job Purpose

The Lead Analyst is a key role within the New England and New York Procurement Team. The Lead Analyst will support Strategic Sourcing efforts with data and analytics related to Category Strategies & Management, Team metrics and Sourcing Events. This role directly supports the New England and New York Gas Procurement leadership team to support strategic initiatives, enable team capabilities and identify and promote data-driven innovations to deliver long term value.

Key Accountabilities

Category Management & Strategy Support: 
Alongside the category buyers, the Lead Analyst may be required to support the development of comprehensive and forward-looking category strategies. Key accountabilities include:
•    Develop knowledge of the Procurement Processes (SSP) to ensure the adoption and utilization of best-in-class methodologies across National Grid Procurement
•    Extend support and expertise beyond the immediate team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the organization.
•    Develop category and contract expertise, including an understanding of market drivers, historical spending, forward-looking workload, budgets, etc.
•    Foster strong, collaborative relationships with business stakeholders to understand current challenges, opportunities and business outcomes to be considered during strategy development
•    Foster strong, collaborative relationships with Gas Category Managers, supporting them in the development of forward-looking category strategies, contract timelines and strategy updates, and periodic leadership updates
 

Procurement Process and Project Management: 
In direct support of the New England and New York Gas Procurement leadership team, the Lead Analyst will have responsibilities to drive procurement process compliance and success against annual objectives. Key accountabilities include:
•    Manage and report on key performance metrics, taking a leading role in delivering insights and driving corrective actions to improve metrics
•    Observe trends and patterns in overall performance and process, suggesting opportunities to learn from successes; reduce waste; and correct poor performance
•    Lead project teams to drive improvement initiatives by preparing detailed plans, tracking project performance, mitigate risks and assuring timely completion of deliverables
•    Take a lead role in identifying needs from supporting procurement functions (i.e. strategy, systems, process excellence, supply chain risk, compliance) and directly collaborating with those groups

 

Systems and Analytics:
•    Lead Analyst will develop a robust understanding of all systems used for reporting and data tracking. 
•    Analyze large data sets and extract information for strategic decision making, including informing complex negotiations
•    Extract data from multiple data sources and apply statistical methods to understand, measure and provide insights about spending trends, supply base performance and value opportunities
•    Evaluate and summarize data into quantifiable measurements/KPIs with corresponding trending, reporting and deep dive root cause analysis where appropriate
•    Validate and clean large datasets and work with system owners to suggest corrections or enhancements
•    Work with buyers to further fine tune analysis files to be used during negotiations and for comparison purposes when evaluation proposals

Qualifications

•    5+ years’ experience in a data analyst function or equivalent experience in category management or procurement
•    Bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.S.) in supply chain, finance, business, data science or technical discipline or equivalent experience preferred.
•    Results orientated with a proven track record of effectively meeting deadlines
•    Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Power Point. 
•    Demonstrated ability to “boil down” intricate data and put into lay terms
•    Ability to identify complex problems and challenges, analyze the root cause and identify, test, and implement innovative solutions 
•    Ability to lead a cross-functional project team to deliver tangible business benefits

•    Ability to “think out of the box” while project managing their own workload among various groups

 

Additional valued experience
•    MS, MBA, or Advanced degree 
•    Prior experience with Ariba Systems, SAP, and/or Microsoft Power BI
•    Working knowledge of Lean Sigma or other Performance Excellence tools
•    Prior experience in a leadership role and/or enrollment in a leadership development program

At National Grid, we work a hybrid work schedule which generally means that some days you will work in the office and some days you will work remotely. This can vary and is at your manager's discretion.  Applicants for these positions can be located in any of our service territories (New York and Massachusetts) or any state that borders New York and Massachusetts, and you must reside within a reasonable driving distance to your respective office.  

Annual Salary

Brooklyn and Hicksville, NY:  $139,000-$164,000

Waltham, MA:  $130,000-$153,000

Upstate, NY:  $116,000-$136,000
