National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.
Group Function Rotations
Graduates in our People team will take part in a 12-month exploration. Your first 6 months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following a broadening 6-month placement designed to provide you with a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.
About the Position

As an Associate Specialist in the People Function, you’ll be a vital part of the teams that support our most important asset: our people! You’ll rotate through various HR teams (like Performance and Development, HR Business Partners, and Performance Management) to learn how we support our employees at every stage of their careers and drive performance for National Grid. This is also an exciting time to join the People Team as we evolve our ways of working through our People Digital Transformation (PDT). Be part of this journey and help shape the future of our HR practices!
This is a hybrid role that can be based in Waltham, MA or Brooklyn, NY.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting the success of our workforce. Here’s what you’ll be up to:
- Collaborative Work: Team up with different HR Centers of Excellence, including Employee Relations, Talent Management, Rewards, Recruiting Strategy, and Professional Development.
- Strategy Development: Assist in creating HR-related strategies that help our teams thrive.
- Data Management: Support the collection, organization, and analysis of HR-related data to drive insights.
- Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate workshops and present information to senior leadership, helping to shape our HR initiatives.
- Information Translation: Make complex information easy to understand and digestible across teams.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Business, Human Resource Management, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

Salary Range
Waltham, MA $68,000 - $80,000 a year
Brooklyn, NY $73,000 - $86,000 a year
You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
