National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

Are you ready to dive into the world of IT and Customer Connections in the energy sector? As an Associate Business Partner for IT Customer Connections, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how an energy company operates while supporting our essential systems. You’ll be the go-to person for our customized Salesforce-based web portal, helping applicants submit distributed energy resource (DER) and customer connection applications through ConnectNow. Your role will involve translating user needs into actionable requests to enhance user experience and improve data accuracy. This is a hybrid role that can be based in Waltham, MA or Brooklyn, NY.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll develop a solid understanding of key business processes, customer needs, and utility regulations. Here’s what you’ll be up to:

 

  • Collaboration: Work with business leaders, subject matter experts, customers, and team members to identify enhancements that improve user experience and data accuracy.
  • Feedback Provider: Share insights with business users about how potential process changes could impact Gridforce functionality and vice versa.
  • Troubleshooting: Be the front-line support for user issues, figuring out if problems are due to defects, user errors, or process gaps.
  • Bug Reporting: Submit bugs and user stories in JIRA to the ConnectNow Product Owner(s) for prioritization, ensuring issues are addressed promptly.
  • User Acceptance Testing: Coordinate with subject matter experts to complete User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for user stories and defects that affect the team.
  • Training Development: Create and present training materials to help users navigate Gridforce/ConnectNow effectively.
  • Team Support: Assist team members with ad hoc process improvement, automation, and IT enhancement projects as needed.

 

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution    
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026   
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization) 

 

It would be awesome if you had

  • Previous experience with IT user support, process improvement, customer service experience, user experience (UX) design, Salesforce, or JIRA
  • Enthusiasm for sustainability, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and/or other clean energy technologies

Waltham, MA $73,000 - $86,000 a year

Brookyln, NY $78,000 - $92,000 a year

 

You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
