National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.
Group Function Rotations
Graduates in our Finance teams will take part in a 12-month exploration. Your first 6 months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following a broadening 6-month placement designed to provide you with a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.
About the Position
As an Associate Finance Business Partner, you’ll join a high-performing team supporting financial planning and reporting for National Grid’s Global IT & Digital organization and Group Functions. In this exciting opportunity, you will gain hands-on experience in corporate finance, collaborate across international teams, and contribute to strategic decision-making that will help to transform the energy industry.
This is a hybrid role with 2 days of work in the Waltham, Massachusetts office per week (flexible depending on meetings, trainings, etc.).
What You’ll Do
You’ll accelerate your learning and understanding of how to influence a business from a financial perspective. This is a fantastic development opportunity to learn how to consult with the business and stakeholders, work towards specific goals, and flex your critical and strategic thinking skills! Here’s what you’ll be up to:
- Financial Metrics & Reporting: Support key financial metrics and reporting for Global IT & Digital and Group Functions, including analyzing results and developing business commentary and ad hoc analyses.
- Collaborate & Challenge: Work with Finance Business Partners to develop, drive, and challenge business assumptions that are critical to stakeholders regarding short-term results and long-term strategy.
- Allocation Analysis: Analyze and ensure proper allocations to National Grid operating companies and business units in the US and UK, using trend analysis and comparisons to budget and forecasted allocations.
- Global Collaboration: Partner with peers across US, UK, and Global FP&A teams to foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment.
- Dynamic Team Contribution: Contribute to a fast-paced, dynamic team that balances the needs of multiple stakeholder groups.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

Salary Range
Waltham, MA $65,000 - $76,000 a year
You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
