National Grid is hiring a Engineering Manager (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Waltham, Massachusetts.
Job Purpose
The manager will lead the execution of transmission compliance activities, reporting, and process standardization. This role will lead a team of engineers and analysts, establishing clear guidance, improving consistency in outputs, and strengthening coordination across planning, asset management, and compliance functions. The manager will be a critical resource in Transmission Planning and Asset Management responsible for supporting the delivery of quality regulatory and compliance filings. Lead a team to provide analytical and project management expertise to the Transmission Planning and Asset Management function to facilitate and support regulatory filings and compliance objectives, including internal governance and performance reporting.
Key Accountabilities
• Oversee the development and implement processes, tools and documentation for Transmission Planning & Asset Management to maintain compliance with ISO New England rules/policies, NPCC Criteria/Directories, NERC Standards
• Ensure compliance with FERC requirements and NERC/NPCC standards (TPL-001, CIP-014, TPL-007, FAC-008 etc.).
• Develop and update Company Transmission Group Procedures, including preferred methodologies to address evolving compliance obligations
• Assess the developing NERC Standard Drafting Teams to assess which standards may warrant participation, considerate of future ballots
• Ensure the appropriate strategy for successful NPCC audits of applicable (TO and TP) NERC Standards are developed and managed.
• Development of New England Transmission Owners’ Guidance Documents with other transmissions owners, including but not limited to physical security risk assessments.
• Develop and implement study guidelines for performing TPL-001-4 Transmission System Planning Assessments on annual basis.
• Review and comment on FERC and NERC technical proceedings for transmission.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve internal planning procedures and governance frameworks.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve methodologies to address evolving compliance obligations and regulatory expectations.
• Lead and develop reporting processes for planning activities, project status updates, compliance activities.
• Serve as central coordination point between planning, asset management, compliance, and engineering teams.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Advanced degree such as MS preferred.
• 7-10 years of experience in the technical, operations, or engineering aspects of the electric utility industry with a strong background in asset management and/or planning.
• Demonstrated ability to understand electric standards and experience in developing planning processes, policies and procedures.
• Strong understanding of transmission planning processes, ISO-NE planning, and regulatory environment.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and improve process, and the ability to influence stakeholders to streamline ways of working.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret information, analyze relationships across complex issues, and clearly articulate findings, while anticipating potential obstacles and proactively identifying next steps.

Salary - $181,000 - $212,000
