Senior Environmental & Sustainability Advisor - Offshore Projects (East Midlands)

We’re hiring a Senior Environmental & Sustainability Advisor to provide expert leadership across our Strategic Infrastructure offshore projects – shaping how major programmes are delivered safely, responsibly and compliantly. You’ll act as a senior technical authority for project SHES teams, providing oversight on a wide range of environmental topics, assuring regulatory compliance, embedding our offshore sustainability strategy into day-to-day delivery, and driving consistent best practice across offshore and land-based operations.
Working closely with internal teams, regulators, partners and local stakeholders, you’ll influence decisions throughout the project lifecycle to protect the environment, uphold corporate standards and deliver a lasting positive legacy. You will actively deliver our sustainability commitments, driving climate action, nature positive outcomes, responsible resource use and meaningful social value.

This role offers hybrid working, combining home, office and site‑based working. You’ll be aligned to our Eastern Green Link 3 & 4 (EGL 3 & 4) projects therefore you'll be open to travel across the East Coast of England and the Midlands. There is occasional travel to meetings in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Key accountabilities
- Lead and deliver offshore environmental management systems and sustainability strategies aligned to National Grid plans.
- Drive sustainability opportunities that support portfolio objectives and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, guidance and visible support to Environmental & Sustainability Advisors and SHES teams.
- Ensure environmental and sustainability legislative, licence and contractual compliance across offshore projects.
- Act as a recognised subject‑matter expert and trusted advocate across projects and stakeholder interfaces.
- Deliver assurance activities, performance insight and project‑level reporting to regulatory and funding requirements.
- Support procurement and supply‑chain engagement, including contract input and compliance assurance.
- Provide expert support during environmental incidents and promote a strong, positive SHES culture.
About you
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, environmental management systems and best practice for sustainable delivery.
- Confident stakeholder influencer, able to engage positively across internal teams, regulators and external partners.
- Proven leader with experience mentoring and developing Environmental & Sustainability Advisors.
- Proactive change‑maker with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Professional, credible presence with a genuine passion for embedding a positive environmental culture.
- Well‑organised and delivery‑focused, with excellent planning and time‑management skills.
- ISEP (or equivalent) membership desirable and a full UK driving licence required.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £61,000 - £70,000 – dependent on capability.
