Regional Commissioning Managers

Business Unit:  Electricity Transmission
Requisition Number:  12039

Build the future of commissioning at National Grid

This is a rare opportunity to build a commissioning capability from the ground up setting the standard for technical excellence, developing exceptional people and helping deliver the critical electricity transmission infrastructure that will enable the transition to Net Zero.

We’re appointing two Regional Commissioning Managers—one for the North zone and one for the South zone—to establish and lead a new commissioning capability within Asset Operations. Each manager will build and lead a team of five, creating the expertise, standards and culture needed to support major grid upgrades and the transition to Net Zero.

National Grid’s Asset Operations business keeps more than 300 electricity transmission substations across England and Wales performing at their best through maintenance, installation and refurbishment. As a Regional Commissioning Manager, you’ll have the mandate to shape commissioning across your region: building a mobile engineering team, establishing leading standards and practices, and creating a capability that strengthens delivery for years to come.

You’ll have the opportunity to build, lead and shape a critical new capability by:

  • Build a world-class commissioning capability: Recruit, develop and lead a high-performing team of mobile commissioning engineers, creating the expertise and culture needed to support operational and capital delivery.
  • Shape the strategy: Develop commissioning policies, procedures and practices that enable consistent, high-quality delivery across National Grid.
  • Be the technical lead: Set direction and solve complex commissioning challenges across projects.
  • Raise the bar: Make sure commissioning practices are applied consistently and effectively across your region.
  • Deliver major infrastructure: Help develop strategic infrastructure schemes and lead commissioning for Asset Operations capital projects.
  • Champion better ways of working: Improve commissioning methods and help create the next generation of policies, procedures and practices.
  • Help your people thrive: Lead and support your team, building technical expertise, collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement.

Must haves:

You’ll combine strong commissioning experience and technical credibility with the leadership skills to build a new commissioning capability across a major electricity transmission network. You’ll be comfortable setting direction, developing people and bringing consistency to complex delivery environments. You’ll also need:

  • A minimum HNC, or equivalent qualification, in an engineering discipline — preferably Electrical Engineering.
  • To currently hold, or have previously held, a TP/BP 141 authorisation.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Up to £92,000 pa salary, plus a company car and a 30% bonus opportunity.
  • 28 days’ annual leave, plus a combined pension contribution of up to 18%.
