Quantity Surveyor
About the role
Help drive efficiency in the green energy transition.
We are looking for Quantity Surveyors to join our Infrastructure Delivery (ID) team, to work on our large-scale construction projects in the North-East of England.
As owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network, we take green energy seriously. Between now and 2026 we’re investing £29 billion into the decarbonisation of energy systems.
Would you like to be involved in this vital transition? If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor who wants the chance to work on high-value, complex schemes, we’d like to hear from you. You’ll be providing commercial and contractual support to project teams on large- scale infrastructure projects.
Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.
You’ll enjoy great variety and the chance to work on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, providing crucial commercial guidance across numerous schemes at any given time.
You’ll be welcomed into our diverse, inclusive organisation that has recently won an Institution of Engineering and Technology silver award for our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programme. If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we look forward to talking to you very soon.
This is a varied role and you’ll be involved with Contract management and financial reporting, at Precontract and Post contract stages.
We will support you in your career progression with National Grid, and provide support and guidance for those wishing to achieve their MRICS status, with several councillors and chartered professionals within the business.
You will ideally be based in the North-East of England and will work on a hybrid basis with a mix of home, site and office working.
What you'll need
Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event.
You can deal positively with people at all levels of the business, including management, succinctly presenting facts, and providing contractual advice.
You are confident in making independent decisions using your own skill and judgement, and willing to challenge the decisions made by others.
You will either have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law, or have considerable experience of quantity surveying, coupled with an understanding of NEC contracts.
You also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. There is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to site as and when required, but as part of our hybrid working model, you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home, at a National Grid office, or site.
What's in it for you?
Starting salary of £54,000 - £65,000 dependant on experience – plus an additional Market Supplement of £3,000, plus an Annual Performance Based Bonus.
- 26 days’ annual leave, plus eight statutory days.

- The option to buy additional or sell holiday days.
- Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
- Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role.
- Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
- Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
