Quality Advisor
About the role
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) sits at the heart of the UK’s energy system. We connect the nation, powering homes, schools and businesses, and supporting everything from daily life to economic growth. To do this safely and reliably, our network must continue to evolve, improve and meet the highest standards of quality.
As a Quality Advisor, you’ll play a critical role in supporting our regional delivery teams to achieve excellence in quality and compliance. Acting as a trusted partner to managers, staff and contractors, you’ll coach, advise and influence to embed a strong quality culture across all activities. You’ll ensure work is delivered in line with industry best practice, ISO standards and National Grid requirements, while driving continuous improvement across our construction and manufacturing environments.
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
- Promoting and sustaining high-quality performance across construction works and contractor activities.
- Offering specialist guidance on construction and manufacturing assurance, helping teams understand the impacts of poor quality, defects and rework on cost, programme and safety.
- Contributing to the successful implementation of the company’s Quality Strategy across projects, from early design through to commissioning.
- Providing quality input during tender and contract award processes to ensure robust quality requirements are embedded from the outset.
- Conducting regular site visits and quality walks, attending project meetings, and working closely with site teams to identify non‑conformances and drive effective resolution.
- Leading or supporting investigations into significant quality issues, providing clear guidance on corrective actions and sharing lessons learned.
- Engaging with managers, staff and contractors to build capability and promote a positive, proactive quality culture across Customer Connections.
- Delivering independent quality assurance, audits and compliance checks against National Grid standards and contractor ISO systems.
- Producing monthly quality performance data, supporting the Quality Safety Management System (SMS), and contributing to the development and review of policies, procedures and specifications.
You’ll cover sites across the North of England, with regular travel required. This role also offers the flexibility of hybrid working, combining site presence with working from home.
What you'll need
- A recognised health, safety or quality qualification such as NEBOSH Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Management within construction environments, including ISO standards and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience working in a Quality-focused role within a construction, utilities, infrastructure or similarly regulated industry.
- A full UK driving licence, enabling travel to sites across the region.
- A good understanding of National Grid policies, procedures and specifications—particularly those relating to project design and construction delivery—would be advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to influence, motivate and engage others.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence interacting at all levels of the organisation and supply chain.
- The ability to identify risks and improvement opportunities, recommend preventative actions, and successfully embed new quality initiatives.
- Experience developing and delivering training sessions, briefings and guidance materials in an engaging and effective way.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognise patterns of resistance and address them constructively.
- A solid working knowledge of the CDM Regulations, particularly the responsibilities of the Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
