The Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit has been set up to deliver 17 new major projects in the UK, as well as other strategic projects to help us deliver on our net zero ambitions and help the UK Government meet its target of 50GW of renewable energy by 2030.

 

The Onshore Engineering team’s objective is to lead on Engineering Strategy and to provide technical expertise on the development and implementation of Transmission Assets, ensuring all projects meet with both internal and external specifications, meeting anticipated engineering and operational requirements.

Are you ready to take your career to the next level? We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Project Support Engineer to join our dynamic team at National Grid.

 

The Project Support Engineer (PSE) will provide subject matter expertise in a relevant discipline and will be responsible for providing Design Assurance and Project Engineering support associated with Electricity Transmission Assets and Civils. The PSE will ensure design, specification and build activities are complaint with National Grid technical standards, business procedures, supplier requirement and specifications throughout the project life cycle (project inception to project completion and handover)

 

In this pivotal role, you will:

 

  • Be a Subject Matter Expert: Lead the management of Design Assurance activities for Electricity Transmission design and build projects, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
  • Drive Efficiency and Sustainability: Enhance the effectiveness of our assurance methodology, contributing to sustainable practices within our operations.
  • Manage Multiple Design Packages: Oversee the design assurance of various projects, from outline design to completion, across key areas including substation HV design, civil design, overhead line design, HV cable design, and P&C design.
  • Ensure Compliance and Quality: Review technical designs to guarantee adherence to specifications and quality assurance standards, maintaining our commitment to excellence.
  • Support Project Engineers: Utilize your design expertise to assist project engineers in resolving technical issues that arise during assurance reviews.
  • Facilitate Technical Interfaces: Oversee the assurance of technical interfaces between different packages and projects, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  • Promote Knowledge Sharing: Communicate effectively across projects to share lessons learned and best practices, fostering continuous improvement in design and technical areas.
  • Be a Key Contact for Guidance: Serve as the primary resource for technical assurance guidance, providing invaluable support to project teams in engineering and assurance matters.
  • Advance Your Career: This role offers a pathway to becoming a Design Assurance Engineer upon successful completion of National Grid's internal BP141 requirements and qualifications.

What you'll have

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Membership of relevant professional body (IET, IMechE, etc) preferable
  • Demonstrable experience of Design Assurance and Project Engineering support associated within Electricity Transmission Assets, Civils or a related industry 
  • The ability to articulate complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, ensuring clear understanding across all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate your ability to juggle various projects simultaneously, delivering results on time and within scope.
  • Commit to your growth by studying for and obtaining BP141 authorisation, enhancing your expertise and career prospects.

What you'll get

From £54,090 - £63,940 dependent upon experience.

 

As well as your base salary you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

Please note that this role has a variable base. We're flexible on where you're based but there will be a need to travel to sites and offices on a regular basis.
