At National Grid, we're delivering some of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects to support the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.

We're looking for an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of major capital programmes across our electricity transmission network in London. This is a high-profile leadership role where you'll be responsible for shaping, directing and delivering complex infrastructure projects from concept through to completion, helping connect new sources of clean energy and enabling the UK's Net Zero ambitions.  Current high-value programmes range from London Power Tunnels, Uxbridge Moor, Northwest London reinforcement works and Willesden and Wallend.

This opportunity would suit a senior programme or project leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex challenges and has experience leading large multidisciplinary teams through major construction infrastructure delivery programmes.

What You'll Do

• Lead the safe delivery of high-value, complex infrastructure projects to time, budget and quality requirements.
• Direct and inspire large multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects and locations.
• Manage significant capital investment programmes, commercial contracts and project risks.
• Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, regulators, local authorities and government stakeholders.
• Drive projects from early development and strategic planning through to construction, energisation and close-out.
• Champion a culture of safety, collaboration, continuous improvement and high performance.

This role is based at a London site/office for 3-4 days per week and can be combined with occasional home working. Regular travel to sites will be required.

About you

You'll bring extensive experience leading major infrastructure or construction programmes and be comfortable operating at a senior leadership level within a complex environment.

We're looking for:

• Significant experience delivering major construction projects or programmes.
• Experience within the utilities, energy, transport or similarly regulated infrastructure sectors.
• Strong project, programme and contract management expertise.
• Experience managing large budgets and complex commercial arrangements.
• Proven leadership of large multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
• A recognised Project Management qualification.

Experience of electricity transmission networks, customer connections or power systems would be beneficial but is not essential.
