At National Grid, we are looking for a passionate and skilled Project Development Engineer to join our dynamic team in the Asset Operations business. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplined development team who are responsible for all the steps before a project goes into delivery and play a crucial role in shaping the future of our Cyber Security investments.

 

This role is a national role, and it will require some travel to our various locations depending on project and team requirements. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Appoint and lead the scheme team during pre-construction phases, actively managing key stakeholders to ensure their timely input and agreement to the selection and development of investments, pursuant to timely approvals.
  • Ensure NG obligations to the NIS Regulations are considered in all scheme team activities.
  • Align scheme team activities to National Grid’s Security Risk Framework (SRF) and corporate UK Cyber Security Strategy which outlines our wider business approach to cyber security in National Grid.
  • Develop the least cost, optimal, efficient and safe solution in line with CDM Regulations and SHESQ considerations. Document all residual design issues, CDM issues, hazards and risks.
  • Undertake the required site and condition assessments, and support type registration, cost estimation, tendering, contract award, programme & project risk mitigation and innovation activities to enable the delivery vehicle to implement the agreed solution on site.
  • Assess the need for Front End Engineering Design (FEED) or ECI support and where required, appoint and lead the FEED or ECI Contractor in their activities. Monitor and control the FEED or ECI budget and resolve any contractual issues in a timely manner.
  • Support the Portfolio Engineer to monitor and control portfolio of cyber investments throughout the preconstruction phases and provide competent, accurate and timely financial forecasting information to support regulatory reporting, and business and capital planning.
  • Support the tendering process of projects entering delivery, to provide expertise and lead in the production of competent NEC Site and Works Information, and other procurement documentation where relevant.
  • Take on board lessons learnt from completed and in-flight cyber investments, including lessons from analysis of compensation events into early investment phases so that the engineered solutions deliver the essential scope at optimal cost, and meet our obligations to the NIS Regulations.

What You'll Have

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • Experience in managing internal / external stakeholder relationships
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • CDM, Health & Safety and Environmental legislation proficiency.
  • BP142 Authorisation or experience required to complete within 6 months.
  • Proficient understanding and demonstrable working knowledge of key business processes and governance.
  • Understanding of The Security of Network & Information Systems Regulations (NIS Regulations) and National Grid’s obligations to it.
  • Proficient technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and the OT (operational technology) transmission assets therein.
  • Understanding of RIIO mechanisms and the way that National Grid delivers revenue under the regulatory framework.
  • Proficient knowledge of the application of CDM, Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Proficient project management skills including management of time, cost, safety and risk.

Salary of £54,090 - £60,000 dependent on experience.
