We are recruiting for a Project Commercial Officer to join our Commercial team of our Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) project. This role offers hybrid working with occasional travel required to Glasgow. We’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to make this role work for you.
Job Purpose
Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) is a major multi-billion-pound offshore transmission project being developed by National Grid, in joint venture with SSEN Transmission, to support the UK’s transition to increased renewable energy generation as identified in the ESO’s Pathway to 2030 Holistic Network Design.
In this role you will report to the Senior Commercial Manager from line management perspective and from a functional perspective to the portfolio function’s Commercial Lead. Being part of SI’s Offshore Commercial department you will work closely with commercial managers and analysts across the function on portfolio wide topics and ensure lessons are shared on a timely and appropriate manner. You will collaborate closely with SI Commercial Excellence team to understand the relevant commercial governance requirements as well as the applicable Nationalgrid project gates contribute to EGL3 satisfying such requirements.
You will effectively collaborate with SI procurement function to ensure relevant EGL3 procurement activities are supported in a timely and efficient manner.
What You'll Do
Commercial Governance
- Contribute to establishing and maintaining robust commercial governance and record-keeping practices across the project, regularly reinforcing their importance with the relevant Work Package commercial teams.
- Review and update the Commercial Manual for Delivery on a regular basis.
- Collaborate with Work Package teams to ensure the EGL3 P&C SharePoint site is used in a structured and consistent manner as the single repository for all procurement and commercial information.
- Work closely with Commercial Work Package Leads to ensure key procurement and commercial decisions are captured, documented, and communicated in a timely manner.
- Identify key Commercial Moments in line with the SI Commercial Decision-Making Framework and liaise with Commercial Managers and the SI Commercial Excellence team to schedule Commercial Readiness Reviews (CRRs).
- Develop a strong understanding of the tools and systems used across the EGL3 project, ensuring commercial team members have access to the appropriate training materials, user guides, and support resources.
Procurement Support
- Develop an understanding of the procurement frameworks available within National Grid and build strong working relationships with framework leads within the SI Central Procurement function.
- In partnership with the Joint Venture counterpart, take ownership of the Purchase Order Request Form (PORF) process, working closely with Work Package teams to proactively identify and manage procurement requirements.
- Own and maintain the EGL3 Procurement Planner, ensuring it is regularly reviewed and updated in collaboration with relevant Work Package and project portfolio teams.
- Ensure the Procurement Planner serves as the single source of truth for all past, current, and future procurement activity across the EGL3 project.
- Work closely with the EGL3 Funding and Regulations team to ensure procurement activities are appropriately aligned with ECF, PCF, and PA funding mechanisms.
- Collaborate with the Finance Business Partner and Cost Control team to reconcile Procurement Planner data with project cost control reports.
Project Administration
- Support the Commercial Heads in organising and coordinating monthly commercial team meetings, including agenda development and preparation.
- Raise and manage purchase orders associated with procurement activities routed through both National Grid and the EGL3 Joint Venture.
- Raise cross-charge invoices from National Grid to the EGL3 Joint Venture where required.
- Work closely with the Finance Business Partner and Cost Control teams to ensure purchase orders and cross-charge invoices are administered accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.
About You
- Experience working within a commercial or procurement function in a project-based environment.
- Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, such as Project Management, Business Administration, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or Engineering.
- Experience working in a commercial excellence, governance, or process improvement role.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Experience working within a joint venture environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- Supply chain or procurement experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.
- A highly organised and proactive individual, capable of managing competing priorities and building effective relationships across the project organisation.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary of £55,000 – £65,000 per annum, depending on capability.
