About the role

 

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) operates the UK’s electricity transmission network, ensuring a safe, reliable and resilient supply. As our network continues to evolve, effective planning is critical to successful project delivery.

 

As a Planner, you will provide end-to-end planning expertise across the development, tendering and construction phases of Static Wound Equipment projects (including transformers, shunt reactors and quad boosters). You’ll own the planning process, developing integrated, cost-loaded programmes, managing critical path and float, and applying earned value techniques to monitor progress, identify risk and support delivery to time and beyond allowance.

 

You will validate and challenge supplier programmes, ensuring compliance with contractual and National Grid requirements, and provide clear performance insight through variance analysis, site verification and regular reporting. Working closely with project teams, contractors and stakeholders, you’ll support informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and consistent, accurate portfolio performance reporting.

 

The role involves regular travel to sites and offices across the UK, blended with flexible and hybrid working.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and manage integrated, cost‑loaded project programmes, including critical path and float analysis.
  • Review and validate supplier and contractor programmes to ensure contractual and National Grid compliance.
  • Support tender evaluation by assessing programme quality and deliverability.
  • Apply earned value and planning controls to monitor progress, risks and performance.
  • Analyse schedule variance, early warnings and change impacts, recommending mitigations.
  • Verify progress during design and construction, including site visits.
  • Provide clear programme reporting to project and portfolio managers.
  • Maintain accurate baselines and support regulatory and portfolio reporting.

 

 

What you'll need

 

  • Advanced knowledge of P6 planning tool.
  • Skilled capability to assess change and impact assessment on time risk allowance and forensic analysis.
  • Advanced understanding of the key NEC clauses for Planning and Early Warning.
  • UK Driving licence.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build strong relationships across multiple teams quickly.
  • Experience carrying out client programme development for initial project phases.
  • Evaluated tender programmes for compliance to NEC clauses for Planning and Early Warning.
  • Experience in delivery of projects during construction during civils installation.
