About the role

 

To help deliver National Grid’s most ambitious Strategic Infrastructure Onshore projects, we’re embedding a PMO Performance Lead at the heart of every major construction programme.

 

This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, influence, and meaningful impact. You’ll build strong relationships with a broad range of internal stakeholders, using excellent communication and strategic insight to drive project performance and shape critical decisions.

 

As a PMO Performance Lead, you’ll bring a customer‑focused mindset, expert stakeholder engagement capability, and a passion for turning data into action. Your ability to interpret performance metrics and translate them into clear, compelling insights will directly enhance outcomes across some of the UK’s most important infrastructure projects.

 

We are currently recruiting for two roles; This role is based in Chesterfield or North Wales.

We offer flexible hybrid working where possible. This role involves regular travel to office locations and project delivery sites/ substations, primarily within the region surrounding your contractual base location. Occasional nationwide travel may also be required, depending on project demands. Flexibility and willingness to travel are also essential.

About you

 

We are looking for experts in their field with the following;

 

  • Proven experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and communication to support data and performance activities
  • Exceptional ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at various levels, advocating for data-driven decisions and securing buy-in for projects and initiatives
  • Strong skills in engaging with diverse stakeholders, understanding their needs and expectations, and effectively addressing concerns to foster positive working relationships
  • Highly motivated and self-driven, with a proactive approach to identify opportunities for improvement and driving initiatives that enhance data and performance outcomes
  • Exceptional organisational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects and tasks efficiently while ensuring timely delivery of projects and activities
  • Solid understanding of data management principles and performance metrics, with the ability to leverage technical knowledge to inform decision-making and support team activities. Strong understanding of Power BI front end and its functionalities
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data to derive insights that inform strategic decisions and enhance project performance
  • Expertise in establishing and tracking key performance indicators (KPI’s) to assess project performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to various audiences
  • Experience in working collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to a positive team culture and supporting colleagues in achieving their goals
  • Ability to support and facilitate change initiatives related to data and performance, promoting a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated capability to identify issues and implement effective solutions, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team 

What you'll do

 

  • Governance & oversight: Ensuring compliance to client PMO standards, methodologies and best practice.
  • Project Management Office Activities: Acting as the main point of contact for PMO coordination activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and resource availability.
  • Performance monitoring: Tracking project performance metrics and ensuring the right discussions are taking place to drive performance.
  • Reporting: Providing regular updates and reports to the project senior management and stakeholders on project status, risks and issues, and project health checks.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Communicating with stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations and ensuring involvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuous improvement: Identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Meeting cadence: Leading on the monthly cycle of the Project Board including pack production and meeting coordination, ensuring alignment with reporting into the regional programme boards.
  • Audits and assurance: Acting as a point of contact to ensure a coordinated approach to audit requests within the project, whilst also ensuring project compliance with internal documentation such as BP500SI and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Best practice: Ensuring the cascading of messages relating to PMO best practices, successes and communications.
  • RACI: Supporting the project teams with the production of RACI’s and ensuring regular reviews.
  • PMO improvement initiatives: Continuing to work closely with the Performance Reporting & Data team to deliver and embed improvement and transformation initiatives across the Onshore portfolio.

What you'll get

 

A competitive salary between £55,000 - £65,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
