About The Role
New Role – Permanent – UK Hybrid
The UK has set out its ambition to be net zero by 2050 and the energy industry is responding – together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain.
As part of our major projects, Strategic Infrastructure have been allocated five HVDC submarine cable interconnector’s projects which are all now under contract and ready to start construction. In the coming decade we will install over 3000km of HVDC submarine cable which will provide us with the largest offshore cable network in Europe, to do this we need to build a world-class organisation, and we are looking for talented and skilled people to deliver this big work.
As Marine Technical Lead you will work for our central engineering function and shall be assigned into a multi-disciplinary project delivery team in one of National Grids portfolio of inter-connector projects within the UK. The Marine Technical Lead shall be responsible for leading a team of technical experts that specialises in the surveying, design, installation and commissioning of submarine HVDC cable systems.
This is a newly created role allowing the right applicant to truly shape its dynamic and add some really value from procurement through to delivery stages.
You'll have the opporunity to impact a number of headline mega projects including Wester Link, Seal Link and Eastern Green Link.

About You

- Experience of submarine cable, offshore T&I or subsea projects combined with experience of major infrastructure project delivery in the offshore environment
- Knowledge of FIDIC form of contract and in soils/weather related claim management and dispute resolution.
You’ll also be an effective people manager for this management grade role with great communication skills, capable of working effectively within a dispersed multi-disciplined team and within joint venture project environment.

What You'll Do
You will:
- Provide support in tendering for the main works contracts and shall be responsible for the drafting of the Employer’s Technical Requirements, and for leading the technical evaluation of the bidder’s project execution plans, installation programme, burial assessment studies, and weather downtime calculations.
- Have responsibily for the employer’s monitoring and acceptance of the Cable Installation Contractor’s works, including but not limited to their surveys, PLGR, boulder removal, pre-sweeping, dredging, cable crossings, landfall HDD, cable lay, cable burial, remedial rock protections, jointing and testing.
Additionally you will:
- Be responsible for the management and delivery of all Front-End Engineering and Design activities that are required to inform the design envelope for the cable route engineering and burial protection requirements, and for the provision of the required technical inputs to the team responsible for preparing and submitting the project’s consents applications for the Development Consent Order
- Support the Principal Installation Manager and Senior Project Manager in the drafting of EPC contract strategy documents relating to marine works
- Provide safe management of the Contractor’s offshore works and for ensuring their compliance with and our vessel assurance process
- Manage the Cable Installation Contractor’s weather performance and cable burial performance and for acting as the Employer’s technical authority for all vessel, soils and weather-related claims.
- Collate the marine as-built dossier and for the management of the hand-over process to the asset management team on completion of the works

A competitive salary between £77,000 – £92,000 dependent on capability plus a brand new hybrid or fully electric vehicle.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You’ll receive 28 days annual leave plus the option to buy an extra week too.
