Lead Quantity Surveyor
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a great project team and to play a key role in the UK’s transition to clean energy within Strategic Infrastructure team as an Experienced Lead Quantity Surveyor on a multi-billion pound strategically important infrastructure project, where you'll be responsible for providing contract and commercial administration and guidance to project teams during the development and delivery of large and complex infrastructure projects ensuring that they are achieved safely, on time and within budget.
Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.
This project requires regular travel within the UK, aswell as attending the Warwick office for key meetings.

This is an experienced Lead Quantity Surveyor role, and you'll be leading on a large-scale contract.
You'll have experience of;
- Delivering multiple large construction contracts or complex construction projects already
- Be able to demonstrate extensive experience of contract and commercial management across a range of contract types and suites.
- You will have demonstrable proficiencies in complex stakeholder engagement such as multiple interfacing contracts or Joint Ventures.
- You will be experienced in risk management, procurement preferably in a regulated environment and negotiation.
- Ideally, you'll have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law and several years relevant experience or significant experience of working as a QS on large construction projects.
- You'll have a good understanding of FIDIC Silver book and NEC4 contracts (Option A, C and E).
- Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential as you might have a contractor or consultant background, for example.
What you'll do
You’ll be the lead commercial representative providing guidance on commercial and contract management considerations and advising on contract options and budget estimates, including risk & contingency allowances on pre and post contractual activities within a large work package (over £0.5bn) for a multi-billion pound project.
Pre contract you will support the production of an estimate, input to the Procurement and Contract Strategies, lead the creation of commercial ITT documents and commercially support the project through to Contract Award, including evaluation and negotiations.
You’ll be responsible for the contract quality assurance of construction contracts, ensuring contract obligations are fulfilled as well as, providing commercial and contract management support.
You’ll ensure contract compliance, through effective contract management activities including monitoring of spend against agreed budgets, KPIs and other metrics across the project.
You’ll produce all necessary contract forms such as valuations and payment recommendations, instructions and communications for the assigned work package, leading on the reviews and assessment change, supporting any escalation procedures and dispute avoidance and resolution processes.
You may have a small number of direct reports and will provide guidance and support to the more junior members of the team.
Contract administration
Take the lead in ensuring contractual obligations for both Contractor and Client are fulfilled in compliance with the Contract
Take the lead on drafting notices in accordance with the Contract
Attend meetings to support the Project Team in commercial / contract matters
Ensure junior team members comply with contractual obligations under the contract and project requirements.
Providing sound and reasoned advice to project teams, to assist in the resolution of any complex disputes or contractual matters with support from the Contracts and Commercial Manager
Ensuring that across your portfolio of works, contracts are managed effectively, and the relevant contractual procedures are followed.
Cost Control and Reporting
Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts.
Attending contract risk reviews and lead robust costing of risks for your Work Package
Playing a key role in ensuring project teams are compliant with governance processes.
Ensure that effective change management is employed on your work package.
Draft / input to governance papers in accordance with project requirements
Stakeholder engagement
Building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including Project Managers, Contracts and Commercial Managers, Delivery Managers, Contractors, and colleagues in procurement and regulation teams as well as with JV partners
Facilitating good communication between stakeholders. Communicating succinctly and consistently, reaching out to senior stakeholders for assistance when needed.
Pre-contract involvement
Supporting and guiding others in procurement events.
Advising on most suitable procurement route and contributing to the strategy and any necessary governance documents.
Leading on the commercial assessment of tenders and supporting negotiations
Preparing and updating estimates the procurement strategy and process develops.
Developing relationships with our regulation team to support any submissions made to Ofgem with regard to funding for our schemes.
What you'll get in return
A competitive salary between £61,000 - £70,000 – dependent on capability.

A job requirement car will be issued subject to business mileage covered.
