About The Role

 

 

Permanent - Yorkshire/ Lincolnshire - Full Time

 

Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical ‘superhighway’ cable link to be built between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and Drax in North Yorkshire, England. The project is being jointly developed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT) and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET).

 

The construction phase of the project commenced in August 2025 with construction works due increase across 2026, and energisation planned for 2029.

 

This role, resulting from an internal development move, will be based within the National Grid team who are managing the southern onshore section of the works.

 

This work involves the installation of 68km of onshore HVDC cables from Fraisthorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire to the new converter station site next to Drax Power Station.

 

You will be responsible for the delivery of parts of the installation of the 68km HVDC Cables, including elements of civils packages.

 

During the week you can expect to spend 3 days mixed between our Leeds and Bridlington office.

  • Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Electricity Transmission Systems, Cable System Engineering, Engineering and Installation of Cables, Landfall Engineering (Horizontal Directional Drilling), Offshore Cable Engineering, and Offshore Cable Installation. Major Projects - Civils
  • Working knowledge and application of CDM.
  • Understanding and experience of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies.
  • Proficiency in Contract Management.

What You'll Do

 

 

Working closely with our Lead PM your focus will be;

 

  • Drive stakeholder satisfaction through positive stakeholder (internal/external/joint venture) engagement where required and work pro-actively to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Drive efficiencies and programme assurance solutions.
  • Monitor Contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid SHES standards, Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, and CDM regulations.
  • Manage standard and routine third-party issues, land, consents, grantors, public relations and Community stakeholder relationships to preserve National Grid reputation.

 

Additionally you will cover:

 

  • Developing, and delivering cost efficient, optimal, efficient and safe solutions in line with CDM Regulations and SHESQ considerations.
  • Producing all required project documentation, ensuring governance is maintained throughout project deliver and close-out whilst also demonstrating the implementation of lessons learned and best practice.
  • Developing, implementing and managing project delivery, design, safety by design, commissioning, scheme closure and post-completion requirements.
  • Supporting the consenting, lands negotiations, type registration, cost estimation, programme risk mitigation and innovation activities to enable the delivery vehicle to implement the solution on site.
  • Monitoring and controling budget and resolving any contractual issues in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring and controlling the investment throughout the process providing regular project monthly status reports (including SHE performance, milestone progress, risk management) and accurate and timely financial forecasting information to support regulatory reporting, and business and capital planning.
  • Managing and co-ordinating contractors, project teams to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and specification and with minimal disruption.
  • Managing the contractor commissioning and performance testing process on site. Ensuring the provision of accurate ‘as built’ documentation to handover of the assets onto the system to the standards defined in the design.

A competitive starting salary between £62,000 – £78,000 – dependent on capability plus a non performance based annual supplement of £4,500 paid monthly.
