To manage national energy projects
This is a chance to help make Net Zero happen by project managing the infrastructure that connects low carbon energy to the existing electricity transmission system.
We are currently looking for Project Managers and Lead Project Managers to join the team on our Great Grid Upgrade project based between Norwich and Tilbury to build a new 400 KV electricity transmission connection of approximately 180 kilometres in overall length from Norwich Main Substation via Bramford Substation and a new Tilbury North Substation, into Tilbury Substation.
You will be required to work from site two days a week, which is likely to increase over the phase of the projects. On this basis, being commutable to the site would be ideal.
About You
What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:
- You’ll be an accomplished project manager with experience delivering complex, high value infrastructure projects. You’ll also have experience in managing risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
- Ideally, you'll have technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission system, with strong influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. You’ll have the ability to support and mentor the wider team, developing capability and resilience.
- Working knowledge and application of CDM, and Commercial & Contract Management experience (NEC) is beneficial.
- You will be working in a busy, buoyant environment with lots of variety and change. You’ll need to be resilient, driven, and good at prioritising and managing your own time, particularly when the unexpected crops up.
- Project management experience in engineering would be desirable but not essential.
- The most important thing is that you’re excited about building the kind of infrastructure that will help make Net Zero happen.
- Some overnight travel will be required.
What you'll do
Your role will be to manage EPC projects to time and budget, hitting key milestones along the way. You will use your proficiency to deliver and manage your projects in accordance with National Grid policies and procedures and the lessons learnt from your work will be shared across the wider business.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Support the management of one or multiple EPC projects, depending on the project lifecycle.
- Help to develop, sanction and deliver projects to time, cost and specification in accordance with the Network Development Process.
- Ad-hoc support for projects across different workstreams.
- Quickly getting projects back on track if they slow down, mindful that any slippages will adversely affect the portfolio as a whole.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, CDM & Environmental legislation as well as adherence to National Grid SHES standards.
- Deliver the business’s regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments.
- Employ a robust risk management process, ensuring governance is maintained throughout the project.
- Deliver the projects’ Capex spend and utilise value engineering to reduce costs whilst remaining within scope.
- Provide regular project status reports - financial forecasting, SHEQ performance, milestone progress & risk management data.

- Acting with fairness and honesty in your communications. When things aren’t going to plan, you will share your learnings, and when they are, you will celebrate your team’s successes.
- Mentoring members of your team and supporting their ongoing professional development.
What you will get in return
A competitive salary between £54,000 - £72,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
