Lead Portfolio Project Manager

We’re looking for a passionate Lead Portfolio Project Manager to join our Asset Operations team! The role facilitates and leads a team of Project Engineers to successfully deliver and close multiple Low Voltage Alternating Current (LVAC) projects within time, cost, and specification requirements, in accordance with the Network Development Process. It ensures that health, safety, and environmental issues are managed throughout the process and that projects meet the business’s regulatory, stakeholder, and customer commitments.

 

This is a peripatetic role, and you would be required to travel to different sites as part of your role. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Act as a lead ‘single point of contact’ for Self-delivered scheme work, managing an assigned portfolio. 
  • Accountable for project delivery for PMO schemes within year (self-delivery & Contractor) within portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Operations Managers and Develop Engineers to ensure clear forecast of work to be delivered.
  • Act as the NEC Project Manager (or equivalent for other contract types).
  • For self-delivery projects, as required, enact the role of Commissioning Panel Chair and Principal Contractor (PC) under the CDM Regs.
  • Manage and co-ordinate Contractors and project teams to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and specification and with minimal disruption.
  • Produce regular project status and delivery reports to the Substation Lead Project Manager, as required. This could include SHE performance / contractor safety audits, scheme progress (Developed / Planned / Delivered), and current and forecast financial performance.
  • Monitor Contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid SHES standards, Health & Safety, Environmental legislation and CDM regulations enacting CDM roles.
  • Support Project closure activities including ownership and tracking of snagging requirements.
  • Prioritise conflicting priorities across the portfolio.

What You'll Have

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • NEC3/NEC 4 ECC Project Manager qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Significant demonstratable experience delivering combined LVAC & Civils projects
  • Good Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
  • Proficient technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System
  • Knowledge of business processes and governance.
  • Understanding of RIIO mechanisms.
  • Working knowledge and application of CDM
  • Proficient understanding and experience of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies.
  • Proficient in Contract Management.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading cross functional teams
  • Demonstrable experience of stakeholder management.
  • Proficient business writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and an appetite for continuous improvement.
  • Good influencing and negotiating skills.
  • A customer-centric approach to delivering a high-quality output.

What You'll Get

Up to £70,000 dependent on experience.
