Join us as a Lead Portfolio Engineer or Portfolio Engineer and play a pivotal role in managing multi-billion-pound investment portfolios that power the UK’s energy transition.
These roles require a hybrid working approach, with flexibility to work from home, office, and occasional site visits. You’ll typically attend the office twice per month and travel as needed for stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
As part of the Infrastructure Development team, you’ll ensure our capital investment portfolio is planned, governed, and delivered effectively.
- Lead Portfolio Engineer: Own the portfolio planning process, driving optimisation and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Portfolio Engineer: Support portfolio analysis, reporting, and governance to enable informed decision-making and efficient delivery.
In these roles, you’ll influence and shape; National, Regional & Investment strategies for substation upgrades, overhead line reinforcements, and cable replacements & installations, projects that underpin the UK’s energy transition. You’ll translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, ensuring our portfolio delivers maximum value while meeting regulatory commitments under RIIO-T3.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain portfolio plans, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory commitments.
- Analyse investment drivers and prioritise projects to optimise value and manage risk.
- Produce high-quality portfolio reporting for senior leadership and regulatory submissions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, finance, and delivery teams to ensure integrated planning.
- Support governance processes, including cost-benefit analysis, scenario modelling, and performance tracking.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in portfolio management.
About You
You’ll bring strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively, complemented by excellent communication and business writing capability. An analytical mindset is essential, with a focus on problem-solving and continuous improvement. From a technical perspective, you’ll have a solid understanding of capital investment planning and portfolio management principles, along with familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as RIIO and associated governance processes. Proficiency in data analysis and financial modelling tools will enable you to provide robust insights and support strategic decision-making.

Lead Portfolio Engineer: £61,000 - £78,000
Portfolio Engineer: £54,000 - £68,000
